I love reading about strange things like this. Apparently herbivores such as deer and sheep have frequently been documented eating birds, even carrion at times. It is suspected that they're after the calcium/phosphorous (and perhaps other minerals) in the bones. It's so weird to see, but amazing how they somehow instinctively know what to eat when their body is deficient in something.

Yeah, someone mentioned this on Tumblr:
"In some British islands for example the only reliable source of calcium for the local deer is the babies of the seabirds that nest there."
That sort of, hmm, not sure what to correctly call it, (parasitism?) animals relying to other animals like that and how one species affects the other.

I don't think it would be called parasitism since parasites are all about keeping their "prey" alive in order to utilize them for as long as possible, maybe more like uncommon predation or obligatory mineral/nutrient consumption? I don't know if it has a word, but I'd like to know too! Harley Shaw, a research biologist from Idaho (I think), reported seeing deer who would dig down into the snow during the winter until they found hibernating colonies of beetles, which they ate presumably for the protein content. Herbivores get crazy when they need their nutrients...

Holy moly that baboon vid is actually kinda disturbing. @_@ Still, it's interesting to see animals eating other animals alive without killing them first...

the baboon one doesn't shock me at all. those fuckers are freaky things and will maul the **** out of a lot of things. have seen a gorilla do similar as well in another video before a few years back.

the pelican and pidgin one my bud showed me when it first got posted amusingly though. we could only kinda laugh with stuff like "wiggle wiggle wiggle!"
