Yarr, I'm a pirate (Artists that have influenced me)
I'm waiting for the day I feel a natural emotion.
Its true
For my drawing class, I had to write a report on an artist, talk about their background, and most importantly their art. According to the sheet, it was to gain a better understanding of the (art) world around us, and of our own work. I have to agree with that statement :P
We were given a list of possible candidates. I looked through this, and other than the illustrator who did the plates for Dante's Divine Comedy (which I bought a FULL copy of for 20$, thats three books, combined with amazing engravings) I saw the only other name I recognized on the list: Egon Schiele
Egon Schiele was an expressionist/Jugenstil painter from the early 20th century. His distorted forms really struck me, and I have been in love with his art ever since I saw it back in high school. I chose to do my project on him
FUN FACT: Schiele was born EXACTLY a century before me. Same date, just one hundred years earlier.
I found that fun.
But other artists who have influenced me:
Francis Bacon - His grotesque paintings are absolutely beautiful. I saw an interview with him, he was a very interesting person.
Salvador Dali - Yeah yeah yeah, everyone says Dali. But he is an amazing painter. His handling of his medium is amazing, and the subject matter is astounding as well. Plus, his paranoiac method intrigues me.
Jamie Hewlitt - Ever since I first heard and saw The Gorillaz, I was in love with both the music and their design. And then I found out about Tank Girl, and came in my panties. Booga is the hott shit yo. Also, look up his designer dildos.
That Guy Who Did Illustrations For Dr. Hunter S. Thompson - They blow my mind. He should get awards. And many a blow-jay.
And Last, but definitely not least,
YOU
Seriously, I probably would still be trying to become a rockstar (and probably would have ended up like Ian Curtis :c) if I hadn't stumbled upon my first bit of furry art. I wouldn't have been inspired to try to take my art to the next level if it wasn't for you mofos. BIG HUGS ALL AROUND
That probably sounds so cliche and lame, BUT I DONT GIVE A FLYING FUCK!
If you haven't heard of some of these artists, I suggest looking them up
Now.

When my brother learned that I did, he called me a pussy XP
Its a good thing he doesn't find out that I like The Cure >.>
RE: Francis Bacon--have you ever seen the film Love Is The Devil? It's about Bacon and his work...
The guy who illustrated for Hunter S. Thompson was Ralph Steadman...Again, someone ballsy enough to stay raw.
You know, there's a really solid aesthetic thread connecting all the artists you mention--there's an affinity shared between their works, a stylistic logic.
Love you tons and tons,
KC
Nor any Charlie Chaplin films.. but for some reason they have Ed Wood movies
I intended to look up the name of Ralph Steadman, but it was like... 3 am when I wrote this. I had just watched Gonzo. It had footage (not sure if it was staged or just random footage) of bikers making out. It was hot.
Love you tons and tons too,

Her work is really close in spirit to Schiele's...
