What Nai Has To Get Out Of Her Thoughts..
Seriously like
Every time i post something it ends up looking like crap fullview ): The resolution is crap
Does anyone know how to fix this?

(And don't upload a larger file using the "edit submissions file" thing cause that's considered site exploitation.)
and it is also against the TOS/AUP. :)
though i know a lot of folks use it to get around the file shrinks for stuff like wallpaper images, larger "full" hi-res files, etc. too
Just read them over, there's no mention of any such thing that I could find.
And there's no block against uploading a 10k*10k PNG or JPEG embedded into a flash file such as with SWF Tools or the like.
I don't know..I just wish they didn't have to convert everything to jpeg.. >_>
Internet resolution needs to be 72 DPI
Print Quality resolution needs to be 300 DPI
So if need be changed your resolution setting when you open a new canvas.
But if the problem is something else I may be able to help!
I've been having the same problem lately. I format my stuff to .png before I upload.
FA uses the .jpeg which is rather annoying sometimes also FA's canvas limit is 1280x1280 so that also causes problems.
It all comes down to canvas size, DPI, File format and few other minor things.
I hope you can figure it out though hun.
Sorry I wasn't much help.
I am going for printing class too ;;
More of that, DPI is now variable parameter of screen, especially on tablets PCs under android. and metric unit instead of pixel is natural unit there (which creates some confusion in some cases, as Samsung, for example, specifies wrong DPI for their tablet screens). I was only pointing out that it's not outdated parameter, it's "very hidden" one, which not required for normal users, but still creates headache for developers.
Thing is that he was setting DPI as parameter for editor, if he saves that in PNG or jpeg, DPI there s irrelevant indeed, those file formats doesn't even have such field. So browser renders pictures either pixel per pixel, or in scale specified in HTML code. You _can_ specify size in HTML in mm, or inches - then, depending on platform, and browser, different effects happen. As I said if display is "unknown" Windows and IE suppose it is 72 dpi. Usually it is known though, as display reports its dimensions to hardware
:/
Or giant potato guns to launch printed copies to people who want them.
Or I have no clue and I'm making things up to be silly now. :( I know there's the old "Upload, then re-upload" trick to get things looking better. If you are already doing that - then I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. Sorry!
It only goes to 1280 x 1280, but if you go to the spot on your submissions where it says - Change info | Change thumbnail | Change submission file - and click change submission file: you can re-upload the picture that way and it will be as big as whatever size you need :)
Everyone does it [well, the people I know at least, hence how I know how to do it] and I've never seen it in the rules o.o
but thank you for warning me, I'll have to go sneak a peek at the rules to find that one

Look for yourself, don't rely on here-say.
I guess you could always ask
unless you experienced the fix yourself, it's still here-say.
And if it was a term, they'd put it in their terms of service/ AUP
If it's not, then maybe your friend was inappropriately admin'd.
I'm not accusing you of anything LOL but thanks for the laugh.
There's no need to be so rude. :c
And how would i be getting anyone in trouble..??
They've made plenty of rule changes, why leave one thing out, out of the 500 edits they've done. Makes no sense.
They can't remove something without proper reason to, for example it's against the AUP/TOS.
I wasn't suggesting them to do anything, i just linked them to the rules and told them not to rely on other people to find out. That it wasn't in the rules. So maybe they should find out for themselves. I only replied to your message because it was relevant to the topic, it had nothing to even do with you. It was an in general term.
Chill out, the only comment made about you and your friend was the inappropriate admin'd comment.
Everything else was about the topic of someone and you saying it wasn't/was in the rule.
i made a suggestion, you only took it as an attack and felt the need to defend your statements when they weren't being challenged.
Nothing i said was directed at you, but the artist with the journal, if you still feel attacked, go reread.
I made an opinion, told you it was still here-say because you aren't the artist with the issue, so you and everyone else commenting it's okay/isn't okay is still here-say because they aren't finding out for themselves.
Try not jump to assumptions when reading text. Not everyone on FA is going to be a douche to you and it's text, you can't tell someones approach without tone anyway!
Have a nice weekend!~
With all FA's database issues, and the fact that the site has a default upload size, why wouldn't they change the max upload size to be larger if it was allowable? The fact that I've heard of people having their submissions resized and given warnings for it should be taken into consideration too.
If it was allowable why isn't the default larger?
However /no-one/ really follows this law and they just edit the submission-- reupload the file and it bypasses the resizing thing.
It was originally in place because of bandwidth limitations but those limitations have long been surpassed with FA's many servers now and the rule was never changed-- nor was the coding that resizes it.
what i do is reupload it and then press f5, or go to the download page. Is that still not fixing it ? .o.
the re-uploading thing wasn't working for me for about 2 weeks
but now it's starting to work for some reason
you might just need to wait awhile FFF
or keep pics only by 1280 x 1280
And the other great secret - use Weasyl O.O
You can also avoid the problem by ensuring your color profiles are set to sRGB, as you likely won't need otherwise unless you're planning printing the image.
I personally draw things bigger than 1280x1280 then re-size it. And usually it looks pretty good to me xD
[there may be a better way though that I don't know about]
1. Resize your image appropriately, putting the dimensions of the longest side at 1280px or lower. You can make an action out of this to automate the process. Keep in mind that you should preview the image in sRGB format to see how it will look after uploading, which can be done through the Save For Web… menu item.
2. Re-upload your image by selecting Change submission file and uploading the file again. It will not be restricted on size, but I don't recommend this method unless you have an image that needs the larger size, such as a comic.
If you'd like to make an action out of the resizing process, here are the steps you need:
1. Open the Actions window and create a new action. It should begin recording by default.
2. Go to File > Automate > Fit Image… and enter 1280 (or lower) for both values. Enable Don't Enlarge and press Ok. Fit Image resizes based on the longest side, whereas Image Size does not, so it's better for use in actions.
3. With your image resized, now go to File > Save for Web… and set the file type you'd like to export as, checking Convert to sRGB, and resize to 100%.
4. Press Save and select where you'd like your file to be exported to.
5. Go to Edit > Step Backwards to undo the image resize.
6. Stop the action recording and you're finished. :)
I had similar classes 14 + years ago and they were already saying this. But in practice, saying internet is this or that dpi makes no sense. You have the actual size of your file, which is (#pixels x #pixels) and when making your layout you decide how much space you want it to take on screen in relation to everything else on the page, which can be variable depending on the size of the window it's being displayed in, and the screen type used. Your objective is to get as close to a 1/1 pixel ratio as possible. This is also true when texturing 3d objects for video games. making web pages, interfaces for mobile games etc ..., etc. The only exception that comes to mind is vector graphics.
