I'm bored and need a new journal, so Fursona Meme time
12 years ago
General
I've seen this one floating around in a few dozen journals or so, and since I'm working out a new ref sheet anyway, I may as well take the opportunity to fill one of these things out too, as they're kinda related.
What made you choose the species of your main fursona?
- Back when I was still closeted, I wanted to make something to represent my id, where the fursona I had at the time was more my ego, and I decided that the tanuki, with their shapeshifting and illusion powers and exceptional balls, would be a perfect fit. Eventually Onyx came to represent me more fully than the previous fursona, and that one fell by the wayside as I embraced Onyx fully.
Does your fursona have the same personality as you?
- For the most part. Onyx is a slut, but beyond that, he's me. Very little differs, and only because of the differences between his past experiences and my own.
Does your fursona have the same likes and dislikes as you do?
- Absolutely. The only difference in that regard is how able he is to express those likes and dislikes.
Does your fursona look like you at all?
- So I've been told by most people who see me IRL and have seen my personal drawings of Onyx.
Is your fursona the same gender as you, if not why?
- Last I checked, I have a dick, and so does Onyx. I don't really have any sort of body dysmorphia and I'm not transgender, and I don't see any other reason why one's fursona would be a gender they aren't in the natural world.
Do you have more than one main fursona?
- I'd say no. I do have other characters, but at the moment only Onyx represents me enough that I'd consider him to be a persona.
Do you have a backstory for your fursona, if so does it have anything to do with your own history?
- Regarding the present day Onyx, I haven't really fleshed anything out besides lineage, but that is based on my family and lineage as it is presently; my maternal side, which is the side of my family predominantly afflicted with weight issues but ultimately the side I know better, is full-blooded tanuki, while my paternal side is a mixture of red panda and black bear, but is also the side I have less personal connection to. And just like in real life, Onyx's father and mother were divorced, and his father passed on when he was young, and Onyx also has a sister, though this fact very seldom comes up. Now, in regards to the second version of Onyx's backstory - where he's a druid in a medieval setting - this is a more fleshed-out backstory, but with very little relation to my real-life circumstances, so i won't bother going into comparing and contrasting that with real life.
Is your fursona mated, if so is it to your real life significant other?
- Nope. If/when I do have a boyfriend or husband or whatever, I doubt that'll chance Onyx's own availability.
Is there something special about your fursona that you think sets them apart from others?
- I think perhaps the fact that he looks like he could be represented by a naturally-existing animal, despite being a hybrid that couldn't exist IRL? Maybe this was more brought about by my making the details of the hybridization come after the physical details were settled rather than before. Like I started off with a tanuki, but wanted him thin rather than chubby, and wanted him with black fur rather than brown and tan, and those two differing traits eventually inspired my idea for his paternal lineage. I dunno. I guess I come across so many hybrid fursonas that are just hodge-podge or two or three species just mashed together in whatever way the creator feels like, and while that's all good, it just doesn't strike me as natural. So yeah, I guess the nature of Onyx's hybridization is what makes him unique above anything else.
Do you have much art of your main fursona?
- *glances at gallery* ...nope, not really. Just a hundred or so pics. Not that much. >_>
Would you ever consider parting with your main fursona, if so why?
- Not really. I've been Onyx for... probably damn near eight years now? I mean, if it happens, it happens. It happened before with Veridianedge, after all. But I don't have plans on it, and if and when it happens it'll probably be more of a drifting away than a split.
If you suit, do you have a suit of your main fursona?
- Nope. I'm way too much of a perfectionist to be satisfied with any sort of Onyx fursuit. I'd be going with body paint, prosthetics, the whole nine. None of these cartoon heads, no swimming in endless seas of foam padding, no sweating in layers of fake fur.
Have you ever roleplayed with your main fursona, or do you prefer not to?
- Used to do it ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I'm not so into the RP scene as I used to be, but I'll still have Onyx bone other guys every so often, if the mood strikes me.
Do you consider your main fursona to be a part of you in any way?
- Yeah. Again, I've had him for about eight years if memory serves, and his original role was to be a representation of my id. You can't put that much effort into developing a character that already is meant to be a reflection of you - even if it's more a reflection through a circus mirror - and not feel that it's part of you. I guess those that do feel that their main 'sonas aren't part of them have a distinct wall where they say, "This is me, and that is the character that represents me, and the two are not the same person." Once you start feeling that you and your fursona are the same person, that is what creates that bond that makes you feel it's part of you, I figure.
