Meh. I'll probably be here for as long as the website exists. I have other accounts. IMHO, FA has the biggest user base right now. SoFurry is great for stories and writing. Weasyl seems pretty slick for uploading mass content and notifying people of when others are livestreaming. I wonder if smaller or newer sites will be able to evolve and innovate to provide new features and attract users more than FA, but FA is obviously trying to change and update their site.

I'm also already on Weasyl - the only thing that keeps the people here is that the majority of the furry userbase is here and therefore has the most possible merit for artists to gain popularity and possible commissioners. Other art-sites are, in terms of most anything design and update-wise, far more superior than FA, so I definately would love to "move" alltogether to Weasyl, keeping my account here but shifting my activity to there. If everybody would've done this then FA would have been long since been, in my eyes rightfully, deserted.

I suppose, if all the high traffic volume magnet artists here on FA outright left for another Furry art host, FA engineers would have motive to redevelop the site into something more in tone with current tastes and standards. However, I doubt that because they haven't delivered it yet. to say nothing of the effect that a mass departure will have in fracturing the audience and community that supports the artists. And that's before you factor in the potentially immense increase in web traffic to furry sites that probably benefited from FA being the chief furry art traffic hub that it currently is.

Meh... In the end, I'll never follow other galleries beyond DA. I do however follow blogs, and those tend to be the better bet.

And I post more stuff on my blog. Though I'm worried that someday someone will report it or get it shut down and then I'll lose contact with people.

Well, Tumblr has essentially no rules when it comes to content on blogs, aside from marking you as NSFW if you continuously post NSFW stuff (which limits your ability to show up in searches there, and thus makes it difficult to advertise). I don't think you're in any danger on that one. deviantART is the one that you'd need to be a little careful with, since they're more strict with their content rules; again though, dA has a much larger audience than many others, and so long as you study up on their policies, it's not difficult to stay within them.
I'm not up-to-speed on where the furry community is at, so I can't comment on whether or not FA is worth leaving or not. From my own perspective though, it's still the one big furry community I know of, and old UI or not, it's still got a large population from what I can see. Shiny new features are great, but like you've pretty much said, the community is the important part, no point in switching around unless everyone else is too. (it would be nice to see you active again on dA, but that's just a matter of whether or not you see anything in that for you; I don't know if you've gotten as many commissions or anything from that front.)

When it comes to blog hosts it's not the anonymous reporting of the content by hostile visitors you should be worried about, but rather changes in management that makes content that was once welcome now undesirable. For example, when Yahoo bought Tumblr a lot Tumblr users were quickly reminded that Yahoo is actively hostile to exclusively adult content. They took action, voiced their concerns, and Yahoo was forced to compromise with removing adult content from Tumblr's search, however you can still find tumblr blogs with adult content by using other search engines.

I have no plans for leaving FA right now - still the largest user-base. Management aside, the site itself is still useful. It's kinda like faulting a country solely because of poor currently government. Found you on Weasyl and have been watching there for a bit. :) I like that site - will eventually make it my FA mirror when I get some time.

That was my plan too. Just have SO MANY UPLOADS that it's daunting. But there are some crossposting plugins for Googlechrome and whatnot for newer uploads. My older uploads are the only annoying thing. They're evidently working on mass uploading tho.

I'm lucky there in that I don't have as much. But that's also because I really suck at drawing. XD Yes, I've seen some of the plugins, so good option for on-going posts. Will be interesting to see where it all is in another 10 years. Things inevitably do change, and I imagine FA will eventually slip away as a primary. Seen it many times on many scales - GeoCities -> MySpace -> Facebook, or VCL -> FurNation -> FA. Change is the only constant. :)

Hell, the only reason I still use FA is because I'm kinda rooted here with all my submissions and watchers. If I didn't have those, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

I'd considered moving to Weasyl, although I doubt writers there get any more attention than here. The interface of FA does feel rather outdated.

From the way it looks, I would say people are less of moving to other sites as much as opening an account on the other sites and using multiple sites until FA drives itself into the ground. I have seen a few artists clear out their gallery and deactivate their account, but most just opened a Weasyl/IB/SF/DA/tumblr/whatever else and have updated them both (though they mainly update the latter over FA)

The tales of FA's demise are largely exaggerated.

That said, if a user is unhappy with a place, The best thing to do is to curtail activities there and entrust themselves with a seemingly better place.

As someone who relies on the userbase for commissions, it's totally understandable that you would hesitate to leave FA, even if you admit to not liking it. However, other users won't make a move that's good for them, unless the content bringers do so. It's a catch-22, and the only sound business advice I can give you is to embrace both the dying husk of a website everyone loves, and that newfangled thing that's glitchy and weird, until it looks safe to just abandon the old (or the old becomes new again).

People aren't going to leave because they're too attracted to the porn and don't like change. But I would just slowly transition just in case something blows up. I know their update may come soon (probably never), so that would be a good moment to setup base somewhere else if it backfires.

i MIGHT, im still thinking about it because ive been on here since like 2008 and i dont want to go. the only thing i see with this is that with FA not a lot of people check my stuff out (and i think i know why o=o ) if its because of the fact i post all my stuff after every year or dont post much at all then oh well. im sorry i dont draw furry stuff anymore :/ its not that i dont like furry art or dont like to draw it, ok well its partly the fact im not big on drawing it. but its also because a lot of my art now doesnt revolve around furry art anymore, it revolves around robots. social media and monsters and photos and steampunky tech stuff.

I think having more people on Weasyl is a good thing. FA has been stagnant for so friggen long and with some sizable competition around, maybe they'll update the website from archaic into something more useable to keep FA competitive. Every body wins \o/

Sadly I haven't ever been able to commission you but, from what I've seen, most people (myself included) are mostly making a new account somewhere else just to have it nearby in case this all goes really south somehow.

FA is basic but it gets the job done. Can't really ask more of a free furry site. I can forgive downtime and such.

I like Weasyl's slickness and support for characters and folders.

I like how DA makes it easy to look through newly posted artwork.

I have artists I follow that are only on one each of those sites. Also, having too many eggs in one basket is bad. So I try to be everywhere.

That's how I feel, honestly. Every time FA goes down, I can't even work properly. I can't have that happening anymore.
