With naming pets I actually wait to meet them first and get to know them before I decide on a name haha I'm so excited for you!!!

Many years ago, a stray dog came to my home. She was friendly, and I took pity on her, giving her food and water, but not impeding her comings and goings. She could leave whenever she liked, but she stayed. After days of her staying of her own free will, I decided that I could no longer just call her 'Hey You', so I began to rattle off names, to see which she would respond to. Curiously enough the name which she chose to come to was that of a FurryMUCK character whom I had known for years, called 'MadraRua, the Vixen of Shadows'. Fast forward many years later. Madra had long sinced passed on to doggy heaven from old age, and one day while working outside a German Shepard mix puppy wandered over. She was the cutest, most loving little thing, and as fortune would have it, after keeping her in the yard for the day, watching out for her owners, they indeed did come by and she was reunited with them. They were new neighbors from down the alley a ways, but the inquisitive little pup was an escape artist, and would break out of their back yard at a regular basis. I would keep her over and call the owners over to come pick her up. They would try to reinforce the areas where she would climb out through but to no avail. She would always get out. Like with Madra, it got there to the point where I needed to call her by some name so like with my faithful dog of old, I started rattling off various names to see which she would come to. She came to the name 'Rei', after the character 'Rei Ayanami' from the anime series 'Neon Genesis Evangelion'. I would always fear for her, being as she was such a good and trusting pup, everyone was her friend, and I was always afraid someone would pick her up and keep her. That and the more she got out the farther and farther she would wander. Then, I didn't see her for a few days and I got worried. After about a weeks time I talked to one of her owners and she told me what happened. Apparently somewhere along the line she picked up some illness, possibly Parvo, she crawled off to an area where she would let no one get to her, she grew sicker and sicker and died. They buried her deep, and I told her owner about how good and loving a dog she was to us, and how my late mother and I loved her so, and how she named herself. It was then that I learned that her real name was 'Star'. But she was Rei to us, and her owner seemed amused at that story. So perhaps you should do the same and let your new pup choose his or her own name.
