I'm still iffy about this overall. I guess with the fact that the sentai that Megaforce was originally based off of overall wasn't as well received, they went on ahead and jumped into the next series afterwards.

I'm definitely gonna wait and see how it goes overall for this before I can make a true judgment call on it.

it's been shown to be possible to travel between the main universe and the RPM universe, so it's not a stretch to imagine the keys somehow came from that universe.

My problem is one of the producers said RPM was in its own continuity. And then I remember this is Power Rangers so never fucking mind

Remember though, in Sentai each season is a seperate universe except for Goranger and JAKQ, Denjiman and Sun Vulcan, crossover movies, and Gokaiger (which is apparently set in the unverse of the crossover movies). Arguably Power Rangers's continuity is less confusing than Sentai.
