My boyfriend and I call it commercial holiday, that's what it really is. but it's still cute to see all the hearts n what not ^.^

Yeah it really really is.
When you walk into any store the entire front is done up with crap people just do not need.
I am glad it makes some people happy.
But I am also glad I am not one of those people >.<

My husband has no clue why I felt its special. It actually has nothing to do with it being a holiday but it is the anniversary of us committing to each other. For what ever reason he doesn't understand why I would feel that the length of time total we have been together vs time married would matter to me. Our wadding was special don't get me wrong but there is something to be said about completely committing to each other and not straying. So for me it marks the time that we became a couple.

The issue I have with it mostly is that people get all excited at work like 'OMG WE ARE GOING OUT AND HE GOT ME FLOWERS! adu GLSDgSfgGDfkjG'
And I am just standing there looking at them like... 'Do you guys never go out? And he does not just bring you flowers for no reason?'
People just take it to far I guess. Like it is the only day they can do those kinds of things.

We don't often have the money for random gifts but he often has diner saved for me when I get off work or a room in the house clean. I am much worse off with showing how much I appreciate him. We often get our tax return about this time so its about the only time of year we get real gifts for each other and not an IOY a massage or the dished done lol. Other than that V-day is a commercial holiday!

I woudl say it is nice that taxes are close to it!
I bet that helps the day along for a lot of people.

for me I like the idea of one day a year to really show you love someone, to take one day a year to set aside all your time for that special person, when you might not normally be able to

personally for me, Valentines day is my birthday, so it holds a different meaning for me, since I have been alone for so long

People are so busy these days. Everyone has to work so hard just to live. So I get that part of it.
Everyone loves me at work because I just walk in while they are all fighting to not close that day 'I will close /walks away and everyone cheers' lol

I feel i have to chime in on this conversation and say my 2 cents. I DO infact think V-day is a waste of time. I think its a waste of time because if you are with somebody, SHOULDENT you show luvs for them EVERY day? and not just one day a year? and personally, i think it...portrayed...in such a way today, to make some single people feel like shit. i see so many of my friend sulk around all depressed because V-day is coming up. So i agree with Jadeicey above me, i gots no one and im perfectly fine. but as a blanket statement, i hate how all the "holidays" now are portrayed as hallmark super sales days. But hey the V-day chalk candys are pretty good to nom on once in a while. so its not ALL bad.

Valentine's Day is a bit strange considering it was originally celebrated for a Martyr. It's still viewed as a day of feast by the older religious orders. Attachment of courtly love came about in the 18th century when printer's started making cards called mechanical valentines and distributed them. The notion quickly caught on with entrepreneurs.
