How do you guys feel about wing-it commissions?
I tried them once before, and I'm not sure how people feel about them in general. If you don't know what a wing-it commission is, its basically you paying an artist to draw whatever they want with your character(s). Which somewhat really appeals to me, the artist. It offers me the opportunity to draw stuff more suited to my strengths, deliver stronger compositions, and create ideas/situations that either just work better or stand out from the average "we're naked and having sex" sort of deal; while also delivering you a quality piece of art that could hopefully surprise you and make you happy.
I think I'm more so worried about what happens if I draw something you hate? And am just curious about how people feel about these in the first place?

I was considering stalking people's favorites though for all of 10 minutes to get a similar idea :3
Particularly because I may not always have an idea for EVERYTHING I want in the picture to begin with.
As a result, just saying "Here's my character, have fun" sounds like fun!
But yeah, I did them once before and I enjoyed the freedom. And I suppose people wouldn't buy them if they didn't like the idea in the first place!
A lot of wing its I've seen the artist asks you to pick a theme, or list two or three words, and a little about the character's personality.
For me, at least theme and rating should be included and if you want frontal or back view. Everything else could be up to the artist.
A 1-2 word theme sounds good, plus a rating (tame/sexy/...) and a sentence or three for the character's personalities. Wouldn't fit to have you put a water-phobic character in a pool or let a pure dominant one get fucked, you know.
I think that for wing-it commissions, giving a bit of a personality type for the characters in the description is a good idea. It gives the artist a better idea of what would be appropriate for the character to do.
As much as I hate to admit it, I kind of have no idea how I want my characters to be posed or what they should be doing.
So I figure it's better to just let the artist work to their strengths than try to come up with something which may be critically difficult for them. That sounds to be in the same vein as you being afraid of a commissioner hating what they get from a WI comm.
My response to those people would be "...You did know what you were paying for, right?" Though this discussion has made me realize that people apparently do not know... oh well.
Personally, I acknowledge that what I'm paying for is the artist's expertise and that if I should be unhappy with it, it's more likely due to misjudging the artist's style than it is with the artist failing to produce something of quality.
So essentially what I'm trying to say is yes, do Wing-Its.
