I have been made redundant at work

Today they announced a "reorganisaiton" of duties at the office where I work and most distressingly mine is one of the roles being made redundant.
This means I wont be commissioning any artists or travelling to any furry conventions until I'm in a stable, full-time job again.
It also means goodbye to my hopes and dreams of emigrating to Canada, as I was hoping that when I could afford the move I'd be able to transfer to one of the offices the company has over there.
As I keep saying over and over, I wish this damned recession would hurry up and end.

Someday, you'll get to Canada one way or another.
I was able to visit Canada in Feb-Mar 2011 and really fell in love with the country. I hope you're right; it would be nice to bring that dream back to life.

No, it's all on paper. One of the senior managers called me up to a meeting room. I'd already guessed what was going on even before I saw the Human Resource officer in there. They told me about my redundancy and handed me the official letter. Then they introduced me to the manager from the outplacement office who was in the room next door.
None of it came as any surprise. Working there has been so cutthroat over the last three or four years.
