Explainify

This morning FA was subjected to a fairly large spam attack where someone was creating false accounts on the site and posting submissions, all of which had some variation of 'Kuno is a faggot'. They used autogenerated email accounts to create the accounts. Spam attacks such as this violate multiple federal laws and can lead to federal as well as state charges. Just before I went to bed and after I posted this comment, the Admins put FA into read-only mode, thus preventing the servers from crashing.

That's what happened.

Indeed, I can verify that DDOS attacks are illegal. However, the publicity generated by such a trial would likely lead to even more attacks. This is a furry site, after all.
