I have some of old movies in my absolute favs: John Carpenter's "The Thing" (1982) - it is still good to watch! x3

Among the newer or relatively newer ones: El Orfanato, Jacob's Ladder, The Machinist - these last two have a bit in common, but, IMO, both are worth a watch.
Jacob's Ladder used to be an inspiration for the creators of Silent Hill video game series ^^

Well I'm not so to the scary but I know one animation which is a bit scary you can try it. Its Coraline.

One that never gets enough love is Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" I love "The Thing" but PoD is my favourite Carpenter nonetheless. It's an awesome slow-burn that'll creep you out hours after watching it. :D

The Ring (not Ringu) is also a favourite, though not so much because it's scary but because it's so gorgeous and moody. Still creepy though!

The Conjuring and The Evil Dead(the original) are in my opinion, great. Especially The Conjuring, since current timeline and all that.

And The Howling!! Oh, what excitement and thrills and scares. One of the Great Werewolf Ones EVER!!

I was shocked at how much I liked Grave Encounters. As far as recent horror movies go, it's a good one. Ginger Snaps is a good werewolf movie as well!!! Aaaaand I was also surprised as how much i enjoyed V/H/S 1 and 2. They're both anthology movies, so you never really get too bored. UvU
