nah but in all seriousness it was awesome to get to see ya there, thanks so much and your art is amazing don't let anyone ever tell you any different <3
OK HERE WE GO.
Display: Your display is awesome! PUTTING A BIG LEMUR PRINT IN THE OPEN DEFINITELY GOT MY INTEREST. JUSSAYIN'~
Prices: SINCE WE'RE BEING HONEST... I tried to avoid looking/asking about prices, because I had NO free cash to spend, so I didn't even want to let myself be tempted. 8'D SO, although I totally wanted one of aforementioned lemur-prints, I didn't get one.
HOWEVER! I DID get one of your buttons!! I don't remember the price, so I'll give my general opinion on button prices, haha. 8D;
If it was $1/-, I'd totally say that's a fair price! It may have been a mini-button, but $1 is a good, round price that people like to hear, no matter the size of the item.
If it was $2/+, I probably wasn't happy to be spending so much on such a tiny thing... but, FORTUNATELY FOR YOU, you were able to manipulate me with sweet lemur nerd-ability. |D
Art quality: THE DETAIL OF YOUR PIECES. WOW. In my own opinion, a researched piece trumps a "omg so good hyper-realism" piece ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. It's one thing to have the know-how to implement such crazy levels of detail in an aesthetically-pleasing manner, but if you don't back that detail up with biological accuracy then the entire piece is effectively ruined. It's why I am consistently deterred by a lot of "famous" artists (Balaa, etc.), yet was immediately drawn to your work. You definitely put a lot of thought into your pieces, which I consider a higher degree of quality than being able to BS details!
... Simply put: YOUR QUALITY IS TOPS, HOMBRE, and I'd pay for your work in a heartbeat!!
Things offered: I seem to recall that you had a relatively limited selection, but... I ALSO recall that it was fairly diverse, so that's always good! And I liked the button-versions of some of your prints (OBVIOUSLY) -- you don't see that often, but I think it's a FANTASTIC idea! :D
Overall attitude: DUDE, YOU SAT AND HUMORED ME WITH INTELLIGENT LEMUR/MADAGASCAR CONVERSATION. It's pretty much a given that I adored you and your attitude!
My bad hair: DID YOU HAVE BAD HAIR? ALL I REMEMBER WAS THE HEDGEHOG NESTLED IN IT.
(Pardon my explosion of caps and TL;DR dialogue, btw! I guess it wouldn't be totally honest if I hid my irritating manner of typing, would it? Haha!)
and anatomy research is something I really enjoy doing. When I undergo a big project I use references like crazy. It always bothers me when I see cat noses on kangaroos or bear ears on meerkats. there are animals out there with such fun anatomy I dont understand why you would just slap another animal part on to them!
Also it was fun to chat with someone about anatomy and the malagasy people, sometimes when I do the research and no one notices it is a bit of a let down.
And omg. OMG. THIS IS MY EVERYDAY LIFE, DUDE. AAAAHHH.
Like-... the world is so diverse, with tons of crazy-awesome and unique animals-- you're robbing yourself of an experience (not to mention artistic improvement, etc.) when you make them all into a generic animal-mass!
Simple issues of shape and such I can understand (ex. lemur ears and feet have REALLY WEIRD SHAPES, so they can be difficult to draw,) but it's giving them body parts of an entirely different animal that I don't understand. The difference between a kangaroo, lemur, etc. and a pawed animal is literally the EXACT AMOUNT OF DIFFERENCE as a pawed animal and an ungulate. Biologically, they are VASTLY different animals, to the point where an anatomical error like that is, by its very definition, drawing an entirely different animal. Style is irrelevant-- it is more accurate to draw STICK-FIGURE HANDS on a lemur than to draw pawpads. :I
I feel like people are just scared to leave that comfort zone... when, in actuality, pushing themselves in such ways will strengthen their work in a lot of ways! It's really sad, but-... I guess we can't expect everyone to understand the significance of these kinds of things. 8'D
