I think that as long as you feel an affiliation to it, that you never really lose interest. It's like a hobby that you still like to check up on now and again by buying a magazine about it, but you don't really do it anymore. There does come a time where you stop going to cons and your hand becomes tired enough and you don't wanna draw the art anymore- but, for me at least, that time is nowhere near.

I don't think there's a set age at which you're too old for it- I just think that there's a certain point in life where it starts to be not so important, like most things that you once found important.

That's my 10 cents anyway .

But I've always been there. I pretty much don't affiliate with any of it. I'm just here. I draw and post my art, I talk to a few people. I don't have fursuits. I don't think I'm an animal, I don't really want to *be* an animal. I don't have anything against it, but I'm not really a part of it. I consider myself "furry fringe".

I think, personally, that it's when you're tired of it, and you don't want to associate with any of it anymore. As some people have already said, there's no set age. I have met people involved deeply in the furry fandom that range from 10 to 65. I think it's more what makes you happy, and what doesn't anymore, or at least, what you want to move past.

Well, when do you think all those anime/manga artists would think they're too old for it? Go Nagai created modern anime and he's is still producing and he's on his mid 60's. Same goes for Yoshiyuki Tomino who created gundam, who is on his late 60's and several others. o3o

Its all a matter of perspective. To some people this isnt just a fun group to hang out with, to them its a business. An industry. Those people will always be a part of it so long as they're making money. For others, maybe you have outgrown it. Maybe it is time for you to move on.

Trying to pin a direct age on it will never work because to some of us there isn't such a thing as an age limit to it. Some of us feel wholeheartedly this is where we belong and that it isnt all just kiddy stuff.

As for me? For now I dont ever see myself officially leaving the fandom, just distancing myself a bit. I got into tis "culture" due merely to my love for anthropomorphic characters in cartoons, and games like Bloody Roar and Final Fantasy. I've also always felt more at home around animals than I have most people. But conventions are on of the few places I can be in a crowd THAT BIG and not feel like tearing somebody limb from limb every given minute. So, for now, I don't see myself getting "too old" for it. Call me a manchild if you will but I wholeheartedly feel at home in this community and will choose to remain.

as for drawing them myself, probably never. i've been into anthro since i was little, always prefering animated animals over animated people, drew them far more than drawing people. as i get older, i'll probably stop entirely with drawing the smutty stuff and stick with my storyline stuff, which i've invested quite a bit of my time developing said storyline.

Why does it matter? I'm just going to stick with this as long as I'm still interested in it. If I'm 40 and still having fun drawing pictures of silly animal people, so be it. I'm not just going to stop liking something because I'm "too old" for it, I already realized that was stupid after I stopped being 14 years old and scared of people finding out I still liked shit like Pokemon and video games

i think when it starts destroying my life i may be to old for it. Like..if i ever get into a serious relationship and because of my art they leave me..and this becomes a reacurring theme. Or if like..if i start losing friends solely for the fact that i sometimes draw furry stuff...then maybe i might have to really consider i may be "to old" for the fandom. It's OK to grow up and grow away. SF fans do it all the time. The "life-cycle" of most people who are into sf fandom is about 2 to 3 years. It's OK if it is just becomes a hobby. It's OK if it becomes artwork (that only looks furry). It's OK to walk away.

If you want, you can be an artist who can do 'anthro' stuff, too. That's what there was, before there was 'furry'. There were cartoonists socializing, before there was 'furry'.

Can I expect that "furry" may have helped some with your art, or cartooning, or life? You've probably made some friends who are more friends than ''furry fans'. You've made friends who are cartooners and might help you in networking in the future. (Even if it's some bizarre network of ironic interests!)
