Anyone here good at Trigonometry or Calculus?

I've had this problem for a good few weeks now and I can't for the life of me find a more efficient way to solve it. It seems very basic, but every time I plug in what I think should work, it goes all wacko! I can explain more if anyone volunteers to help.
