Midas is suggesting a mass outing to Sherwood fantasy faire next weekend. It's pretty close to Austin and they have a pretty grounds with lots of space; I like it! Any maybe the weather will be good. :)
Make sure to eat at Zumos! I actually know almost everyone who works there and I worked for the owner at TRF. I suggest the chicken marinara but instead of marinara the pesto sauce.
...regularly show up at texas renfaires. People also dress up as fairies, dragons, orks, elves--TONS of elves--and the like. References to fantasy videogames and anime are more common in recent decades.
People sometimes show up as Space Marines and Star Trek personnel talking about 'the holodeck'. These people make renfaire enthusiasts cry. (and if I remember properly in a few cases have been asked not to come back in those costumes)
I'd suggest that it would be respectful to the other attendees at least be able to acknowledge the fantasy theme. Dragons or mythological critters, particularly more realistic ones, are obviously on topic. Neon green husky mascots would probably make the rennies sad inside. A cartoon Robin Hood fox costume would probably be a border case.
There's no posted policy though, so it's all a matter of taste and personal judgement. I'd personally suggest trying to respect the sensibilities of the rennies since it's their show--while it is a mishmash of different fantasy ideas, it's more strongly themed than a furry or anime con.
On the practical side, it is outdoors and one will be walking on dirt. I think one of the she-canines (pupcake?) complained of turning partly green from pollen while outdoors in Texas one year. There are sizable public bathrooms with running water, not just port-a-potties, so one can adjust one's self or de-costume if needed.
I have been to other renfairs and always see one person suiting.. However because of the weather lately it might not be the greatest idea to do it outside

Let's hope we can afford it ;u;
