So, I hear Fred Phelps is dying. Good riddance. It's sad he never learned, never realized what loving his fellow man really meant.
I will not mourn Fred Phelps. I might even celebrate his passing in some small way. But I'll still feel sorry for how pained he was.
By picketing funerals, he proved that what he was about was really fame. His religious beliefs took a back-seat to who he truly was: a small, bitter man seeking attention in the worst possible ways. I think the best thing to happen when he finally goes will be for him to die, unnoticed and unheralded: neither as role-model nor as cautionary tale. He should die and be forgotten. It would truly be the antithesis of everything he stood for and best serve to undermine what he worked so hard to achieve in life.
I don't believe in a literal Hell or Heaven. These are states of mind. Fred Phelps will not go to Hell when he dies. He's been there for years.

I'm kind of surprised its natural causes that are going to kill him. Always figured he'd end up killed by a drive-by or something while protesting. Oh well, good riddance. :p

Agreed. In a way, and while he deserved so much worse than what he got (in my view), I'm somewhat heartened by the fact that no one offed him.

Thats for sure. I mean, you know you're offensive if even the Klan is protesting the things you say.. lol

in an ironic twist of fate it would be funny to have people protest his funeral with signs how he is going to hell. It would be so fitting but I think you have the right idea big guy.

OP
Precisely. It would be a momentary indulgence in both schadenfreude and enforced irony. But, in the long run, the best impact anyone can have is to deny him his immortality. People are remembered for their deaths. If his is unremarkable, quiet, and empty, it will either be forgotten or stand out in sharp contrast to how he lived his life. In either case, it undermines what he stood for and that is the real goal: to attack the idea and not the man.
