Dr. Phil: Animal Obsessed (Furry Episode) - My Thoughts

So here is the episode... In all of it's ridiculous glory! XD

Despite some of the more absurd segments of the show, I actually didn't find it to be all that bad. The hypocrisy of Dr. Phil is all over the place (Starting the show by stating to not judge, yet he seems to have judged quite a bit, while in other parts, seemed to be not so judgmental), but he gave a pretty accurate definition of what a furry is mid way through the show.
Boomer is a weird dude IMO, he just has an oddball personality and seriously thinks he's part dog, which is taking the furry lifestyle a bit too extreme really. He clearly does not speak for all furries. It does make me wonder what he would be like had his mother not given him a trust fund and he had to actually go out and work for a living. I wonder if he'd be able to function normally at a normal job?
The mother of the fursuitter was just a straight up bitch, although I do agree with Phil about the buckling down and finding a job part. If being a furry interferes with what you need to do to be a responsible adult, it has become a problem and an obsession, however, that is the problem with shows like these. Those who don't exercise common sense or think about the diversity of the fandom will ignorantly assume all furries are lazy, jobless oddballs, which is clearly far from the truth. Every special interest group has weird people and oddballs, that's just life in general, being a person with whatever personality traits that may or may not be magnified through said special interest. Boomer for example, would still be a weird dude whether he was a furry or not, as that is simply his personality.
The rabbit breast feeder, well, no comment on that really. Wanting to breast feed rabbits is kinda odd, but aside from that she's just a rabbit lover. All you can really say about that.
One thing I've noticed though, mainly on Twitter, and probably because of biased anger towards Phil's general attitude towards this whole subject, is that people totally misunderstood what Dr. Phil was saying about jobs. Many people seem to think that Dr. Phil thinks that just because you are a furry, that means you don't want to or can't get a job and work. So many comments I saw on Twitter such as "Me and my mate both have college degrees and have worked in our fields for over 10 years. Is it ok if we are furries Dr. Phil?" Quite the silly comment to make as Philly boy wasn't suggesting Furries are lazy bastards who don't work. I mean yeah, he had guests on his show that didn't work, one of which didn't need to because he had a trust fund he lived off of, which has nothing to do with being a furry, but yeah... Dr. Phil blatantly mentioned in the show while talking to the fursuitter girl that he doesn't care if you wear a tail while working or going to school, just that it needs to be done. He wasn't suggesting all furries are lazy with that statement, if anything, he was implying that he probably thinks lots of furries do work, but that the girl on his show specifically, needed to get her life back on track because she stopped working and going to school and her mom was taking care of her as a well abled adult, and he was right about that.
Also, the whole "Art isn't a job" thing, yeah Dr. Phil did come off like an idiot saying that because for many furries it is a major, or at least, much needed side source of income; but I think that's more or less what he was trying to convey. Most furry artists out there cannot make a full, supporting living off of commission work alone, hence why they do it as a side income type of arrangement in addition to a regular day job. Some furries, and especially fursuit tailors (Not really art per say) can make it a full time living, but it is not typically common.
And lastly, all this "He's not a real Doctor" stuff gets old. He has a PhD, thus he is a Dr. You don't have to be a medical Dr. to be considered a Dr. Anyone with a PhD in any field is considered a Dr. of their field, so he is indeed a Dr., just not a medical one, hence why he doesn't have a show like Dr. Oz and such.
And before anyone jumps on me for "hating" on Boomer and "standing up" for Dr. Phil, I just want to point out that I am not a fan of Dr. Phil. I find his show, and he in general to be quite annoying, but that doesn't mean he didn't make any decent points here and there in between the judgmental ignorance. As far as Boomer goes, I mean him no ill will and I am hardly hating on him. My opinion of him is that he is a weird guy, but clearly as long as he isn't hurting anyone and is happy, then yes, more power to him and it's his life, but that doesn't mean I would like to hang out with the guy if I ever met him or be his friend. Doesn't mean I hate him either. He just seems annoying... LOL I just fond it funny when people are like "STOP JUDGING BOOMER GUYS! AS LONG AS HE'S HAPPY! HE ISN'T HURTING ANYONE!" Well no shit he isn't, but that doesn't mean I have to like the weird dude like he's my best friend either. XD
I'm all for the furry fandom being tolerant and accepting and kind. One of the things I love about this fandom aside from the affinity towards animals/anthropomorphics, but sometimes I think furries get a lil' too nutty with it to the point you can't call someone weird or odd or annoying without them pulling out the INTOLERANT AND JUDGMENTAL trump card... As much as we are part of a fandom full of furs, we are still human, and judging people is human nature. There is a difference between judging someone based on their personality and if you like them or not, and then a completely different ball game when hating someone because of the color of their skin and sexual orientation. I mean isn't that what Martin Luther King Jr. said? "Judge someone not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character!" And well, IMO, Boomer just has some weird ass content lol, but that doesn't mean I hate the guy with a fiery passion and damn him to a life of misery... LOL
AAAAAAAAAnyway, kind of got off track there didn't I? Sorry, I just find that annoying sometimes the way furries (and people in general) are so black and white about things. There are always grey areas, accompanied by common sense and logic.
So aside from my lil rant there, those are my thoughts on the episode. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts!
