People might be used to or more comfortable with a single form they can relate to in their interaction with a person, but that in no way should devalue anyone who is a bit more ambivalent in their set species. A shape-shifter is still a valid choice, and it allows for more variety than simply one, tired species.

Personally, I think a nice compromise would be to have a sense of cohesion between forms, similar features or color schemes -- SOMETHING to identify that form with the person rather than something more generic. Sure you might not be able to think as that person as "foxie" or "wolfie" or any other selection of personal pet names, but is that really so bad; is it really that hard to connect with someone just because they go between many different species? I don't see you get so much trouble for this, Marin.
