The rank merely gives the percentage chance that someone visiting FA will find your page based on following random links. THAT'S. ALL. It says nothing about how popular you are or whether people even like your work. It just says how likely it is a person can find you my clicking randomly!

Geeze, and you folks are ranting on and on about how bad it is, and how much it makes people out to be attention whores. Really, it was just made by someone who was curious to see how likely it was to be found on FA. He wasn't doing it for attention, or because he thought he was popular, or wanted to be more popular. He's probably just a math major who was curious to see what would happen to use the same algorithm that Google uses.
