In case you were worried, the bunny is safe (recent storms)
I know the last thing anyone wants to hear is a bun bun whining about tornadoes, again. I apologize to anyone who thinks I've become a broken record but I come by my PTSD honestly. I was not looking forward to the prospect of spending another late April, digging my life out of the landfill that had been my home.
Given we had sightings that were within a few miles of us, I'm think I'm allowed a few moments elation.
I also thought that anyone who knew the bunny's location, and were a bit worried, might want a heads up. So here it is; they passed us by. They got close, or so the news reports kept telling us, and I'm sure we'll find some destruction out there tomorrow morning, but tonight I get to sleep in a bed in a room without a view of the stars. We even managed to hold onto our power and internet.
We were better prepared this time, I think. We knew it was a possibility a week or so ago and had gotten kits and plans together. We explained the situation to my niece and nephew, both of who were inside the lake house on April 27th, 2011, when it cracked like an egg. My niece barely batted an eye, because she was awfully young when it hit. My nephew, he started shaking. We calmed him down, giving assurances we could hardly be sure of, ourselves.
Tonight, when they reported a tornado having touched down right near the hospital my sister had picked to have her baby (20 minutes away,) we couldn't help but huddle in the hallway. My niece slept soundly, but my pregnant sister flushed, her face beet red, with a heart beating too fast to really handle. I was sure the baby could feel her stress, and I doubted that was a good thing. So I suggested we watch some Thug Notes since she was an English major and was bound to get a kick out of it.
Afterward, we hit up some BBC panel/game shows, and a box of donuts. We waited the storm out, wrapped up in blankets, enjoying Krispy Kremes, while watching David Mitchell spin a few porky pies on Would I Lie to You? We got so caught up in it, we missed the night's tornado deadline entirely. My sister calmed down, though you could hear the relief in her voice when her husband called us to tell us it was over.
Now I'm here, relating this to those of you who care, and those who are simply curious what's got a bun bun all in a tizzy. Answer? Not a tornado, not anymore, well... not tonight.
Still, I know there will be those who were not so fortunate, and my heart goes out to them. I know exactly what they are going through, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. They have all my thoughts and prayers.
