It must be emphasized that:
We are not an official Church of Satan group. We are not here on behalf of the Church of Satan. We are not a "Satanic Community."
We are a group on FurAffinity that are made up of individuals who follow the Church of Satan and the works of Anton LaVey. 48 years ago today, Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan, inspiring many to accept Man's true carnal nature, and to define themselves as Gods.
Today is our day! Seize this day - and every day afterwards - as your own! Celebrate yourselves, and have a happy and safe Walpurgisnacht!

And hail my fellow satanic brothers and sisters.
Walpurgisnacht is the German word for the eve of the feast of St. Walpurga. She was an 8th century abbess of the Catholic faith. Born in England, she was a missionary to the Frankish Empire, and aided St. Boniface in evangelizing the Pagan Franks. She is considered the first female author in both England and Germany.
The night is itself the vigil of both the Feast of St. Walpurgia, and of May Day. May Day kicks off the month of May, which is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I'm certain that Mr. LeVay, God have mercy on his soul, was well aware of all of this when he chose this night to found his branch of Satanism. He probably intended it to be either a statement that his followers would 'dechristianize' the world, that Satan (ego) would crush Christ and the Blessed Virgin (instead of the Biblical promise that it would be the other way around), or both.
