Ohh cheese and crackers (small rant on games)
Okay, so I posted soemthign a while a go, about something to me sounded like.. maybe a one of a kind deal cause I've sure never heard of it. But when I did, i got so many objections and so many people telling me how wrong and upset they'd be. I .. I surely got confused. I really did. I posted again I got absolute refusal on the idea. So i did an experiment to post it again only with one difference.
Just one
An all guy game studio where guys of all kinds work together to make games, may it be grunge, shooting game, to cutey things. -sparkles- Help bring in new talents all over to make a difference in the gaming community.
I got no objections. nothing. Completely A okay. Except for one anon..which i'm sorry anon note. You dont help my case when your anon..not at all.
the one that got people riled up was.
An all girl game studio where girls of all kinds work together to make games, may it be grunge, shooting game, to cutey things. -sparkles- Help bring in new talents all over to make a difference in the gaming community.
This reallllly got me thinking. It really did. Cause, hell I could do a Whole TED talk about this once i get enough research to show why people are so prominent to think that its alright to say this to one gender but not the other.
Oh i didn't get this kind of argument over the first quote you see up there.
"I think because it's technically sexist in terms of employment (the law) by refusing male employees simply because they're male."
"Are other girls not interested? There were plenty of females graduating in my field with me, some 2D, some 3D, some live action."
"There was one all-women company as some feminist experiment and it crashed and burned."
"To encourage new female talents to join the industry, I don’t think a company (that thus would be majorly be compromised of unexperienced new people?)"
When I said the game industry is a boys club I got complete denial on that.
But when I brought this discussion up with my school mates. I didn't get denial of this. They understood, and even agreed with me why I got upset with such a thing. And I'll tell you, they are all males. They want more girls in the industry.
there was only two girls graduating in my class for bachelors for computer science. 2.
Also on side note, yes girls have a big disadvantage in the game industry. In some places they wont hire them just because they are girls, that girls who want to go into the industry can't just because of their gender. Or. on the side they will only hire them for their looks not talent. it's pretty terrible.
When I was ranting about this on another website i was told "work harder" In all honesty, I've never been so offended in my life.
Now..now..before someone writes something offensive. Just really think about what your going to say.. And ask yourself why are you saying that. Why are you typing this.. is it in your bones are you just deeply offended. Tell me in the post. It can be for either side.
I'll keep it for my research. Before I turn into my 40's i'm going to have long written research on this so I can start changing this around, and help the industry be a little easier on us girls.
My dad encourages me though, he says people are going to hate this or love it. Theres never going to be an in between, if you can find a way to do it do it.
I told him honestly. "I'll try its just finding the peeps who have the courage enough for it."
Let each person have their say in this, don't attack anyone. You can attack me all you want instead, I would deeply appreciate it

However, i dont know how its where you're from, but here in germany, the numbers of women working in the game industry is constantly rising.
I have to admit that i dont have exact numbers but i recall having a docentship about some related data.
I wish we'd all be treated equally, but thanks to the church (or rather some people who where leading it), and the simple fact that before the church "musclepower" was determining your value in a group, this shit probalby will take another thousand years to get somewhat resolved...
I wish you all the luck to accomplish your goals!
Its growing everywhere, woman are starting to get there but in my class the ratio was pretty .. pretty small compared to males. There's already research that girls are encouraged to take other jobs then technical ones like science and math. It's pretty nuts.
Thank you If you ever do find the doctrine i'd be glad to have it.
My job is pretty open and accepting but I'll have to keep in mind if I ever transfer to keep quiet. Sucks. :/
also i didn't know you were gay too. <3
and yeah X//d See, i keep it so quite i surprise peeps.
( totally kidding that isn't the answer but it's the thought that counts! )
They can come off as a little contradictory in some topics, (Internet neutrality being a video that comes to mind about this) but they actually take a logical stance on everything they discuss, and RARELY do they bring in their feelings on a topic unless the topic is something that is utterly so offensive, that they feel the need to use it as an example when it comes to helping give an idea of a "bad game".
The channel is called Extracreditz
and they do a lot of stuff about video game design and other areas in regards to video games.
I'm going to link the video about this particular topic right here though, just for ease:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8ZVZRsy8N8
and while the video does take it more to the stance of a female gamer versus a female game designer, I'm pretty sure a lot of the content matter still sticks as far as this topic goes
Thank you! I'll definitely give it a re watch!
I think people are opposed to girls in the gaming industry cause its still a popular thought that girls simply don't play games, which is totally silly.or if the person does accept that people without penis do endeavor into games, they refuse to accept that a girl might actually be GOOD at games, or play anything aside from stupid dress-up girly games. A youtuber i watch is a guy that occassionally plays games mostly as a joke off the site called 'girlsgogames.com' and constantly remarks on them -- which are almost entirely "how to get a boyfriend!" "dress up this cheesy looking model!" ect about if girls actually even play / like these games? does a site focused on a young female gamer fanbase actually think this is what girls like? ect
Its a doozy. Even kids are really starting to notice it as well. Like the little girl on tumblr who's asking as to why all the girls only get the pink stuff and boys get the rest of the colors in the toy section.
girls gotta work a bit harder to be heard. Even if i do the research it'll probably only reach a few ears.
If the reason behind your results are because of sexism, is it intentional? Those replies don't seem to convey any deliberate negativity towards women as a gender, except maybe one.
where you from? :)
1. I get guys who complain about not finding a "gamer girl", but then they turn around and get angry with me if I beat them. My male counter parts get responses like "good game" far more than they get the same string of expletives as I do. Or they seemed challenged that I'm there and are determined to question my authenticity as a "gamer".
2. I get guys who automatically turn into creepy mode and start asking me things they would never ask another guy. I'm a bitch if I tell them to leave me alone.
3. Then there's the weird over protective type. These guys are hard to explain, but they get really oddly angry at another guy who says something to me. I appreciate the thoughtfulness absolutely, but please show the same courtesy to other players.
Thankfully I run with a great group, and these issues are more pointed towsrds randoms. I don't know why guys seem so adverse towomen in the industry whether it be working in it or enjoying it. Why complain that we don't exist, but then drive us away?
I'm referring specifically to obnoxious types, who act like... "oh, be nice to me, I'm a GIRL" or shit like that
About a year ago, I applied for a desk job at a local business. And was completely denied. The reason?
They told me they wanted to keep the office a dude friendly environment. and were only interested in hiring more guys. I live in an equal opportunity state, and nothing was done about it. It was seen as an okay thing to do. Some people justified it with "well, women are distracting and men have the right to work free of distraction." etc.
But heaven forbid I dare say that I prefer working around women or soft spoken guys. (Loud male voices can give me bad panic attacks, and again, it is just seen as me being an over reacting woman that hates men.) I've been called a "man hater", "femnazi", "controlling bitch" "dyke", just for trying to enter "male spaces" (those spaces being "male" hobbies or jobs)
thank you for sharing, I appreciate it. I'm sorry you had to deal with that kind of stuff.
But aside from that, I've personally never met much resistance or trouble for being in online scenarios as a female. I choose my crowds pretty carefully, and usually just hang around with my husband and his (male) friends. But I typically play MMOs rather than first-person-shooters (they're just not my type of game), and choose VERY carefully which "randoms" I get on voice chat with...And even then, it's rare that I say anything. I don't ever bring up my gender unless directly asked, and whether I give an answer depends on who's asking.
I just want to have fun like anyone else, so I keep quiet about it - I want to be treated like just another one of the guys, even if it means I'm assumed to be a literal male sometimes. I'll deal with it. It's just a little bit depressing that so many females doing this perpetuates the impression of "no girls online."
I hope you keep posting about this sort of thing. I find it interesting, sad, and also not surprising how people reacted to your Gender-Based Studio ideas.
People (mostly men) are afraid by the sounds of it, thinking that women are completely different thinking individuals, that there is NO way they can think alike, and deny women the chance to even make the first steps towards a career.
Graahhh. I never understood the whole division of people based on how they were built in the wombs.
And yeah, I noticed there was nothing about it. It's a shame that, while feminist stuff is all that gets attention, it also gets bad attention. Anything very neutral or guy oriented just gets swept under the rug, and I think that's a problem too o3o
and then I saw your other post a while later and was all "oh. OH. I see what you did there xD"
I almost felt like I fell for it but at the same time. Either group would be cool. I'm just all for girls feeling comfortable in their environment and if they'd be more comfortable with only girls, good for them, and if they're cool with guys, good for them too. As long as they can make a contribution, I guess it doesn't really matter :P
Prove it to the world! Show everyone the righteous power of us (real) gamer girls! xD
I think we need to get together and realize as a society that in the end we are all basically the same and none of our labels do any good or matter. Form a society where you get ahead by your skills, passion, and work ethic. Nothing else should matter in determining if you can do something or not. If I hired my cousin for a job it should be because they were the best I could find and no other reason.
I firmly believe it can be done I want to start a company that makes the best because we hire and keep the best. And never be afraid to risk it on a person or idea because of newness.
