Asking for Free Art from artists and why you Should Not

Lately I've been noticing this, mostly on Deletethestar's(Ryn) and Raptorslut's(Itchy) side, and it's been grinding my gears. Especially from people who try to be their friends, and a few weeks down the line ask for hand outs. Do you... not understand how rude that is? Do you not understand how used artists feel when you do that?

Oh. Another person just using me for art. Cool.
It's /deplorable/ how often they (And I'm sure many artists) have to deal with that.
THEN there are people who complain about the buy price on their auctions. I understand not everyone has 50 dollars to shell out. Hell, in this economy, I horde my money like a dragon with the assumption that any second the worlds going to blow and I'll totally need it in an apocalypse, so I get you, money is precious... and Ryn and Itchy also get that.
Ryn and Itchy do not have a job. Ryn has to move in a month, so she cannot get one. Itchy is a full time college student (Graduating soon!) with a lot of other shit on her plate, and also incapable of going out to look for one. This means ART is their ONLY source of income.
Ryn has to pay for-
-Rent (Her roommate pays for the other half, sometimes. You know, when his 14 dollars an hour can afford it, the wee lamb.)
-Utilities (Water/Electricity/Phone/Internet/Cable/Gas/etc, the price also sitting up in the hundreds a month)
-Insurance (Medical/Life/auto, a month as well)
-Basic needs (Clothes/food/goddamn toilet paper)
-Fixing her car so it'll sell
-Buying a new one/renting a car so she can move in a month
Itchy needs-
-A car
-Gas
-Family
-Also movinggggg
-Insurance!!!
None of this is cheap, and a job isn't paying for it. What's paying for it is the auctions, and when people who play friend with them, or random watchers badger for free art- do you think they have the time?
Itchy has done free art in the past and raffles even though she needs the money
Ryn has done MANY raffles herself
They are EXTREMELY!!!! thankful for the watchers who lend them a hand when they need it and TRY to give back when they can even though they should be spending that time to get money, and then people have the audacity to badger and complain for free art, or /HAGGLE/ a commission price that's 40 dollars down to /15/ dollars.
Not only that, but complaining about 'Where do people get this money!' is VERY rude to the people who BOUGHT the adopts. Not only are you being rude to the artist, you're belittling people trying to help the artist.
Time and time again I am blown away by how selfish and uncaring people are. If you cannot afford it, I truly am sorry! If you don't want to buy it, that's completely okay!! If you want free art, there are REALLY good artists out there who offer! OR WAIT till the artist you want offers to draw for free, it happens sometimes!
Do NOT sit under the guise of 'friend' and ask for art. Do NOT belittle people for the money they spend.

It's always best to just... tell the artist, or talk to the artist first to see if they're okay with it? Or talk to the issue in a calm and polite manner. uvu
I feel for them completely~ It is really shitty for people do treat them like that. :/
I've seen people complain about, 'Artists are only ever friends with artists! Why don't they be friends with non-artists! It's really discriminating of them!' And hilariously embarrassing enough, in my youthful ignorance, I used to agree with that. But then I sat back and thought about it, artists are friends with artists because they can relate. Because artists know how it's like being used, and don't 'need' someone else to draw for them (granted, I'm sure there are artists who pretend to be friends just for art too lol). Not only that, why do you want to be friends with an artist? Do they share your likes? Do you know anything about them? I've seen artists who are complete assholes, but people are so blinded by the pretty art, they still want to be friends with them. Anyone with that complaining mentality doesn't want to be friends, they just want art.
It's, without a doubt, absolutely abhorred. And I'm sorry that you too had to go through that. It's not fun to be paranoid of people, and wonder if a latest, potential, friend actually wants to be your friend, or is another beggar.
If you can't support in money, support their motivation and will and help artists get on track so they can use their resources to keep them afloat.

But really, I cannot thank you enough for the help, seriously everyone who buys is a saint. I know some people don't know Ryn and Itchy's problems, and some are just in it for the stardragons, and that's completely okay but regardless, I am honestly very thankful ;w;
And I religiously check the stareater/dasher/shooter/sweeper tags because I love ogling what people do and come up with them. There's not one idea I haven't read over, I like to think *u*
I got a design from Ryn cause it suited my story, AB'd it. Then a dasher I think from motherhen as a custom cause I NEEDED a red white and black cutie to go with one of my OCs.
I love their designs so much, they match stories of mine BEAUTIFULLY and even though I have HUNDREDS of creations, I get to support two of my favorite artists WHILE snagging an original, SPECTACULAR concept all for my own. While Ryn was designing my second starteater (that I purchased, first was a gift) the moment I saw her designs I knew she had to be mine. I stayed up for hours to snag it xD not so much cause it was a stareater, but the design was something that clicked so well.
They both have a great quality in making designs that...just...work. Work very very well for a variety of people and settings and scenarios. It's a fucking gift and they deserve to be paid well for the time and effort they put into these masterpieces.

I, personally, can't do that. Like I want to be nice and get to know you guys cuz you're all awesome and pretty great/patient people. I try not to ask for free thing and the things I would ask for (not free things :V) would mostly be to see if it's okay if I do something. Or something like that. I don't ever want to be THAT GUY. So if I come off like that trust me I am sooo not asking for handouts. Since I've been burned so many times I actually constantly feel worried that /I/ am going to look like one of those people and alkshlskdhg.
I don't like asking for things , definitely not free things, personally, since others have done the same to me and it's just rude. As for haggling...I don't even like pwyw things because I'm always like "Is this too much/too little??" and constantly go "PLEASE IF IT'S TOO LITTLE, PLEASE TELL ME ALSKLKSH" And if I ask for non-free things I always try to express that it was a curiosity and I won't be mad if they say no ;u;.
Just lashlkhsdg people are rude and need to stop. I'm really sorry that Raptor and Ryn have had to go through so many instances (because even one instance is too much) of people trying to be friends just to get free things. It's so distasteful and no one deserves that. :/

I know how you feel tho, hell, I have a hard time asking them for things and I'm their waifu haha. Don't want to sound like a beggar, oh no OTL But we like you uvu! We talk about a few of our watchers a lot, and you come up on the occasion.
I'd say I hope it never happens to you (again), but //handmotions, we all know how a lot of people can be. It'll happen again, and again, and never stop, sadly.
And ugggh yeah I never want to seem like I'm taking advantage of such nice people. and alskhlsdkhgs -blushes infinitely- I HOPE IT'S GOOD THINGS. Cuz I am seriously the worst at social situations and have had a serious case of "SENPAIS ARE NOTICING MEEEE -blushublushu-" lol.
Just gosh. I really hope people get the hint or something from here on out. It really sucks to hear about people doing that to you guys when you seriously don't deserve it and it makes trusting new friends hard, I bet because what if it's just an act to get handouts and alkshlskhg. Regardless, I do hope it doesn't happen too soon cuz that is seriously one of the worst things you can do. And not just to an artist, but to ANY person by being friendly just in hopes you'll get something free out of it. if it does I will give you many sharp pointy objects to be best warrior secretary and go after them :V
