Some asked about it, others doing really care. Either way, just to have it for reference, gonna put down the story of what got me into the fandom. Warning, this will be a big read. I'll try to leave out details that have no significance, but I do tend to ramble.
Ever since I was a child, I always took a huge interest in cartoons and fantasy life. With me having such a big imagination, it was no surprise, really. The first cartoon I really started getting in to was Pokemon. Around the same time I also started getting in to Yugioh. I always imagined myself in the shows doing the same things they would be doing, while giving it a little flare of my own. I did more of that with Pokemon than Yugioh, more times imagining myself as the Pokemon, my absolute favorite being Charizard which actually sparked my interest with dragons.
As I got older, my imagination kept growing and and, as most children, I even started living life as if I were in some of the shows I watched. My all time hero back when I was younger was Sonic the Hedgehog so I would be seen running around a lot. It was also because of him I focused on speed rather than power. Now, the biggest impact on my imagination was the show from Disney called American Dragon Jake Long. Everyone knew how much I liked dragons, and that show just opened up a whole new world for me. The possibilities of dragons living among us and even better the chance that we could be one and not know it. I went on for years saying I was a dragon, or would be one. I would tell you in your face that I was a dragon in disguise just waiting to get his powers. I kid you not, I wished on every star I saw just to be a dragon, and, being religious, I even prayed for it. ^^" The show depicted it as you getting your powers at 13 for boys so I waited until then to try to use my powers, though they never showed up. Waited another year, same thing. I stopped trying at 15 I believe, but I still didn't give up on being a dragon. What pushed me away from considering myself as a dragon, as crazy as it sounds, was a Chinese calender. Me and my family had gone out to eat at a Chinese restaruant and they had a calender depicting your animal for each month. Well, it said I was a rooster while my baby brother was in fact the dragon of the family. All the while he had been saying he was before and I kept shutting him down but that calender really just shattered me then. For a little bit, even after that, I still said I was family dragon but I slowly started to give up on it. That's when I decided to try and find a new animal to represent me.
This was around the time I started attending High School and I met this guy
and a friend of his who isn't a furry. Every morning we would meet in the cafeteria and every morning we would talk about anime shows. Burr aka Angin aka Uindo aka Sonne aka Asjborn aka Solanus....yes, he had a lot of names...Burr and our friend, Zach, both mentioned how they had made up characters to represent themselves in an anime world you could say. Burr's was a bear, Uindo Hitokago. Zach had a few, the main one I remember being Kagamaru. They both kept encouraging me to make up a character of my own so I gave it a shot.
I started back with the animal and looked through some pictures in our library unitl I came across a demon wolf called Barquest. Not being very original back then, I just took the wolf and claimed it as my own. I said that would be my demon wolf character. All I did extra was slap on some more tails to it, more tails meaning more power in Naruto terminology. Not fully satisfied with just the one wolf, Zach and Burr having multiple characters, I decided to give him sons so I made up Startquest and Ztarquest, the names being based off of Mario with the Star and Ztar. Naruto and Bleach was the big thing then so I gave each of my wolves a Sharingan. Barquest was the only one with two, though, while his sons only had one in one eye reason being they were twins with split elements, light and dark. Still not satisfied, I did more work on these wolves and eventually decided to do a full rework on them, wanting to be original like my two friends. So I changed their names up a bit, coming up with Kaze [Barquest], Inazuma [Starquest], and Kentagari [Ztarquest]. I kept the Sharigans, though. Even then, I still wasn't happy. I needed some human characters for them, someone to help guide them. So I gave them each a partner. Kaze got Kyashi, Inazuma got Iyakoshi, and Kentagari got Kuragari. They were all set up the same, Kyashi being the father and having two twin sons. The names weren't really sticking to me, though, so I did more thinking and changed them up again. Kyashi became Heikou, Iyakoshi became Hikari, and Kuragari became Kurai. I then changed Kentagari to Kuragari.
I was pretty satisfied now with my work on my characters, but looking at them all, none of them represented me. So my final task was to create an alternate persona for myself, which was what I was supposed to have done in the beginning, I know. I was already decent with originality so I didn't have to work so hard for myself. I quickly came up with Kouen and gave myself a wolf partner, Kaen. Ying and Yang was still a big fascination with me so I split each of them up even more by having the humans, including myself, all have an angel form. Doing this, I also threw out their Saiyan forms as I was a huge DBZ fan as well and gave them all Super Saiyan abilities. While we were angels, I made the wolves have demonic sides.
You're probably wondering why all this is relevant. Well, I'm getting there! DBZ had a fusion thing, as most everyone knows. I no longer have this ability for the two but when I first made them, Hikari and Kurai could fuse and so could Inazuma and Kuragari. But I didn't have a fusion for Kouen and Kaen so it got me thinking, what if I did a fusion between the two? A wolf and a human, though, would that work? I started thinking back on many of the shows I've seen with human like animals, especially ones with werewolves so I started basing it off of those. I even started looking up pictures, still oblivious of the furry world. It wasn't until someone from a forum site I use, FriendCodes, came to me and asked about my furry interest as I was using an Anthro avatar there. Looking through his profile, you could see a lot of anthro artwork which I really did like. I hadn't heard too much about furries then aside from no one really liking them. I told him I wasn't a furry but he said he was. He also said I looked like I might be. I didn't think too much on it and kept living life the same, even graduated from school later on.
Fast forwarding a bit, I was now working at Wal Mart and made some new friends. Getting to part that matters, one of them started talking about a game called Tera and said we should all play together. He always did his research on games before playing them so he knew pretty much everything about it and explained it all to us. I asked if they had any animal like classes and he said they had one called a Popori. He said they looked weird, though and I wouldn't play them. I looked it up myself and agreed. I then proceeded to make an account to play but kept looking at the Popori class and couldn't resist making one, for some reason or another. As I played with it, I was wondering if it was strange I found him adorable. It then got me thinking again on furries so I decided it was time to actually look them up and see what they were about myself instead of listening to what everyone else said. Needless to say, first glance all I would find was the yiff stuff but I kept digging deeper until I found out what they were truly about. It was then I found out I was in fact a furry all along. If I were to put an age on it, I would guess it started back when I was 5 and still watching Pokemon and Yugioh, as well as a few other shows that won't be named (baby shows, don't get your minds in the gutter, now). It was from this point on that I started embracing the furry lifestyle and try to be apart of the fandom. I started looking for ways to chat with other furries and came across IMVU which I still to this day use. I've made many friends there.
This concluded my little tale of how I became part of the fandom. To this day I still tease my friend, saying it's his fault I became a furry. None of this would have ever happened if he hadn't told me to play Tera, haha!
