I guess he sees it as a 'gotchya', but if it goes to the courts, they may agree with him no matter how tongue in cheek.

I'm thinking (hoping) that it'll be seen for what it is, some looney either trying to be edgy or as you say trying to get in a 'gotchya' and never make it to the court (or at least get laughed out). And that's coming from someone who is pretty liberal as far as political lines are concerned. I don't think its just guns either, if I read it correctly he's trying to make the case that the EBT cards should be good as cash for purchasing anything you want. This is a monumentally bad idea, those benefits are for food, specifically foods to be taken home to feed a household where the recipient is not likely to be able to feed their family otherwise. Making it as good as cash would allow a recipient to make a judgement on what to spend it on, and most people in such dire straits that they qualify for the benefits are likely to make bad judgement calls when a situation arises where they are / feel pressured to lay out money for something.

Why in the nine hells would you do that? If you want to buy a gun, you fucking buy a gun by saving up the change you get- it's not that hard to buy a gun when you do so with a budget in mind even then!

Most are used for junk food at convenience stores more than actual meals anyway. Deeply flawed system.

Personally I think with America (too ignorant about other countries to add them to my statement) has a priority on junk food more than actual food. With non-processed chicken, fruits, and vegetables costing a premium while processed foods are constantly at a cheaper cost, it reinforces this negative habit with consumers that "Cheaper is better".
