Here's to 2009
Well we all have celebrated the new year in our own ways, some in the bar drinking, others out on the streets, some outside with their animals, and others at home, watching the television closely.
I on the other hand did none of those things. As sad as it is true, I ventured 6 hours from home to visit family on the eve of the new year, and as the hours grew later, and the drinks came and came from rounds being bought by everyone celebrating, all I could think about was being at home. Where the wind can be the loudest part of the night's air, with no frogs, or insects creating a chorus of chirping; just to have the five minutes of quiet just before the turn of midnight, to be with the horses, and nothing else... to me, would have been perfect.
But I'm not there, was far from it, and so at about 10:30pm CST, I left the bar, and drove 'home' and climbed into bed at about 11. Right as I was dozing off my phone rang, and a friend of mine calling from my home state was wishing me a happy new year.
The next morning, as I lay in bed, not wishing to get up yet, I lay there in thought. Everyone has a new years resolution, but isn't January 1st typically nothing more than just another day or is it truly a way to turn a new leaf? If it's so damn special, then why is it, that a lot of people start diets, quite smoking, go do this, or stop doing that on that particular day, just to give it up in a month or so? How many of us have noticed that, those diets never last much longer than a month.
I know, I used to work for Wendy's years ago, and we rose our salad priced for the month of Jan. because of new years. Salad sales spiked and by the end of Feb., well, the rest is history.
I then began reflecting on how the 'landmark' 2008 went. I came and I became one year older, and some months later, I made it to my first furcon, then my second, and the next thing I know, the year is over. Where the fuck did it go??? There seemed to be things I never seemed to accomplish. No it wasn't due to a resolution, but just goals and tasks I said I would get to and some how never did.
I then realized that it's hard not to get sucked into the whole new year thing because most of the rest of society focuses on it. The colder winter months also add to it. (Kinda hard to do outdoor work in three feet of snow) Since there is some minor down time due to the winter months, I decided that if one wishes to call this a new years resolution on my behalf, or just one becoming more determined, well, that's for you to decide.
However, I have decided that several things will be set as goals to be done this year. I first off need to say, I say this year because I don't want to do all this stuff in 20 degree weather, or well as often.
1st - One thing I never did this last year is I never spent enough time with the horses. They live in my backyard, and somehow, some days, saying good morning, or goodnight escaped me. They're one thing I live for, yet, I feel I've disregarded them as a chore, not a loved one.
2nd - It has been a tentative thing for some time, but right now, I am putting my hoof down and saying that I will be going to at least three furry con this year. So far I am going to FCN. I will be going to Anthrocon, and I will be going back to MFF.
3rd - I also have been planning for years now to go and visit a very close friend of mine, well it will happen this year, and soon damn it!
4th - I will get my favorite truck running again. **grumbles "damn transmission"**
5th - I will do everything in my power to go on the week long 100 mile trail ride in Ill.
6th - I will work harder at trying to make my business more successful.
7th - I look forward to having several commissions done. They will be done, no if's and's or but's.
8th - I can see a Banks Sidewinder in my near future for my pulling truck (God knows I need one)
9th - ...to strive to always be the friend I would want to have.
10th - ...and no matter what happens in the new year, I will ALWAYS keep my chin up, ears perked, and my herd first.
So with that said...here's to the next 365.25 days.
Cheers,

I don't really have any resolutions this year, but if I had to pick one, it's going to be to make it back home to see the family more than once this year. This visit I'm on now was the first in over a year, and that's just not good. My grandparents are getting older and stuff, and I need to get down here more often and see everybody while i can.
I'm going to be driving back to auburn tomorrow. Maybe I'll try and give you a call while I'm driving and catch up :)
