Second SecondLife
So I checked out SecondLife recently, albeit briefly. It looks interesting, but seems to run very poorly on my machine. That might be due to my faulty graphics card (waiting for the new one to be delivered), but Guild Wars still plays fine, so I don't know.
I'm a bit lost though, and sick of wandering around as a human. So I might try and hook up with the people who offered help in my last journal.

it is quiet daunting at first, but once ya start to make friends and they (usually) learn ya the basics it can come quite addictive ^^;
whats ya Name btw?

* I have to wonder what Linden Labs were thinking when they limited last names to a list. I see no point in it myself, beyond annoying imaginative people. Maybe it has to do with copyright and ownership.
* Wonder if I could do sketchy comissions for tiny amounts of L$. I doubt it'd be worth it really though.
* That... is an awsome idea ya got flowin there...
Let's see if I can address some of these points, shall we?
On the matter of limited last names: this was done on the wierd and unusual idea that somehow having the limited last names would give users a sense of a virtual family. This idea failed from the start. It is also done to keep their database handling simpler, but from what has been said in the (now deep) past bu Linden Labs, this was a secondary concern. I fully agree, it's intensely frustrating.
On the matter of doing sketches as commissions, this could indeed turn you a fair shake of cash, as several professionals involved with Warner Brothers do such work online, and other artists also sell their works there. So, there likely will be a bit of business. The problem will be getting money to advertise it. Nonetheless, this /can/ be done.
I hope this answers you well enough, love.

Me, I'm still resisting, but figure I'll get dragged in eventually. But if I fight it long enough another addiction should come along. :)
BUT if you need help Respond to the IM I'm about to send you from Ryuen Neruda. I'll be on around 6 pm EST DJing.
It seems to be always clunky to me, even with the graphics turned down low. And I don't have a crap computer. I think it's poorly coded. So it's probably not anyone's fault but linden labs.
SL does run slow typically, it's a real hog on the graphics card, memory processor and internet connection. If it isn't your computer, the servers have lag troubles too.
I know that doesn't really make a compelling case to stick around, but I have for a year and enjoyed it. I've made several friends and started looking into building.
Wishing you the best,

Second-Life, like most MMOGs, is fairly high-end on the graphics scale. It may not appear so at first glance but this is because so much of the images are modularized for easy editing by the userbase but there are a bewildering array of textures and animations in the background alone, not to mention all of the customized avatars walking around.
Unlike most MMOGs however, Second-Life stores the majority of it's data server-side. Presumably this is to allow for easier customization since the data is all centralized and not being downloaded from multiple user computers so everybody can see the same thing when something new is introduced. The practical outcome is that when you play Second-Life you are getting a big truckload of 3-D image data barreling down your intertubes which in a game like WoW would already be sitting on your hard-drive, and you can guess what that'll do to game performance.
