[Rant]Closed species.

[All species mentioned are not meant as an attack on anyone who may have them closed off, it is just ment as an example. I am not attacking anyone.]
I find it harder and harder to get on board with closed species now. I use to love them.
But now, I find things like 'dog pony' or 'here is my thing but it's made of blood can't make it unless you pay me' and it's caused me to grow very annoyed with the whole concept.
And the worst of it is when they close off things like 'slender ponies' or anything else based on something that they hold no real ownership to, like games/tv/books.
You have no right to close off anything that is rooted in something you do not own.
To close off anything simple like, lets say, a pony with another animal trait like a cat is just.
nO.
Anyone could think of that without knowing it's 'closed'. WHen you make something so common you really don't have a leg to stand on when someone else thinks of it without knowing 'you did first'.
YOu can't just smush two already made things together and go 'this is mine'. Anyone can do that, and anyone will.
This has happened to me a few times, so I suppose this is where my distaste for it comes from. Feel free to call me biased because I likely am.
I'll use an example or two that happened to me;
- I made a pony a while back with tendrils coming from its back. I was approached and rather rudely told this was a 'slender pony' and that I had not paid to be able to make one. Now, I'm a huge marble hornets fan, and anyone else who would be it would be easy for them to try the same thing without even have hearing of you closed race of them.
I don't find that fair.
And unless you are someone whos created the slenderman concept, I have reason to doubt you hold claim to the idea.
- And almost everytime I make a grimdark OC or image I have to deal with someone telling me how they or their friend claimed 'sick ____' or 'creepy____'. YOu can not claim the idea of grimdark like really??? Are you goina go up to HP love craft and tell him 'Hey your work is a rip of my closed species remove it or pay me'? no. No you are not.
To make a closed species you need to make sure it is as original as it can be, and please if you feel someone is copying your species don't be a dick about it unless they give reason for it first. They may not even know.

they're just worried you're doing it better and that their sub-par designs won't pull in the money they thought they'd make

dispite that fact of my closed speci, but when you look them up., the first thing you find are my creations in the FA search suchy as eeldog and Now Grave Wisps
but people make ponies, a completely general thing into closed speci, and 90% of the time all they did was stick something on their butt and call it Original
like a variation of tail-mouth
or an entire dragon or whatever
I know. I know tailmouths are a closed thing over but really, I was making shit with tailmouths when I was like 13 and had no idea it was already a thing like
