ack my sound dosen't work

yea so my computer can no longer detect the on board sound device. So should i just get a sound card or is this an sign that my computer is starting to die?

Have you tried restarting it? My computer once failed to detect the pointer input device (eg. mouse), but a restart made it realise I had one plugged in.
