I'm surprised Flags of our Fathers brother-film, Letters from Iwo Jima, isn't on here.

I personally find Letters to be superior.

Quite possibly, in fact. But Assembly (2008) is a really powerful film that I felt deserved to go on here.

What about The Great Escape? Battle of Britan?
Bridges of Toko Ri? Bridge over the River Kawi?
Von Ryans Express?

You must not have a very wide base of movies to choose from if that list of yours is all you can think of for best war movies of all time.

Firstly, Von Ryans Express and The Great Escape, based on true stories though they were, were messed up into improbable adventure films. When I say "War Movie" I don't mean action films like those. I mean Historical Drama. I've seen them all except Bridges of Toko-Ri, though I will grant you I completely forgot about Battle of Britain and Bridge too Far, and I shall add them in when I have the time. It seems to me though that your concept of war films is limited to 1950s, 60s and 70s hollywood adventure films, which is an incredibly limited time frame when you have an entire century.
