Cons to definitely check out once!
I lion therefore I lion!
I have a list of cons here you should try and check out at least once. (In order of appearance throughout the year, not rating).
1) FWA - great location, great time of year, lots going on right in downtown Atlanta. I feel Tigerpaw is one of the best con chairs out there, and he gives back to his patrons. FWA has always been on the leading edge, innovation with adding lots of tournaments, the first dance comp, and even upping the stakes for poker players. Definitely a must try, and now yet another perk: AWESOME HOTEL!!!
2) Confuzzled - What I can I say? This may be the best run con out there; being a middle sized one, yet in the heart of the UK, it has the BEST theming of any con that I've been to. The Brits certainly know how to get a con going, and make it last with over the top events each year! Sure, the UK is pricy, but try it! You won't be dissapointed!
3) AC - The mecca of all cons, I feel everyone should attend once to experience this. However, I'm not planning to go back anytime soon. But because it is THE largest, I would say you should experience it once.
4) EF - Just like the Brits, the Germans know how to serve up a con! Having such an international base of furs to draw from really is awesome. Getting intermingled with different cultures from all across the globe, this con really does this. By moving in an urban center (Berlin) it unfortunately loses some charm, but the hotel will not be overgrown, and transportation from major airports is a lot easier, so there are trade offs. And hey, it's still Germany!! :D
5) MFF - In my opinion, MFF has the best of everything, local food places, great access to transportation, free parking (thanks to great negotiations) awesome hotel, it has it ALL! And this has been shown by the growth. No other con over 1000 is growing as fast as MFF. Each year, the numbers of patrons attending keeps increasing by a small con! THe only drawback is that it has moved to December, for its immediate and foreseeable future, but hey, there are not other cons around it, and it should still grow this year.
5) Honorable mention: Feral! If you like the outdoors, this one is for you. Isolated in Canada's wilderness for 4 days is nothing more than a great release of being tied down to everyday life. It's like no one else exists; you and the woods! Heck, when I left and came back, some little city got hit hard by a hurricane and no one knew about it. It's not really roughing it, as meals are included and you're inside on bunk beds, but it's a great experience and awesome building a camaraderie with others!

...unless you're referring to FurFright 2012, in which many people left early due to the approach of Hurricane Sandy, or Mephit Furmeet 2012, which had a tornado warning and lost power for about 2 hours accompanied by a tornado touchdown a couple of miles away.
Didn't like MFF the one year I went, I got short changed out of my super sponsor stuff and with no refund :/ Gonna give it another try in 2015

An' I do wanna' mention a couple things about FWA. So far I've only been to it once, and that was last year. It was the first year at the Westin, and there was a good smorgasborg of issues. Mainly with the elevators, where for most of the afternoon and evening it was a royal pain in the ass to get on them. Then you had the issue of the hotels wonky layout, which forced the con to have all it's venues/programming on 4 different floors, with everything spread out amongst 5, 6 floors including the lobby. To no surprise that did make it a bit tricky finding people.
However with all that said, I still had a great time at the con. An' I noticed a lot of people's reviews that year mirrored mine, while there were issues with the hotel, the con itself was great. To me that was a HUGE sign on how well run the con was, since normally if a con's hotel is having big issues...that can negatively affect the con itself. But with people like myself loving the con even with the hotel issues, that's a testimate to the good ship Tigerpaw and his crew are running. When they said they'd fix the elevator issues this year, I truly believed them. Reading everyone's reports, they totally did! So all they really needed to do now is move into a better hotel...and whadda' know? With the two year contract with the Westin up, they're now moving into the Marriott Marquis.
Considering all the comments I've read from people who've been to the M.M, and seeing pictures of the place, and it's floorplans. I'm getting vibes of MFF's Hyatt Regency O'Hare on a bigger scale, and with friends and I mentioning that FWA would be golden if they had a hotel like MFF's...needless to say I'm a tad excited for next year!
(Also, another little perk to the con being in April. Around that time Six Flags Over Georgia will be open during the week, and with there being easy transportation to it via Marta...well that's giving me a nice incentive to arrive early on Wednesday since I've been wanting to go there for a while.)
