I AM 18 + college laptop?

I AM AN ADULT. KINDA. I STILL SORT OF FEEL LIKE I'M 12. REJOICE.
But yeah, going out for birthday dinner and dorm shopping later tonight. Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. I'll answer notes and stuff tomorrow~
On another note, I'm looking for a new laptop for college. The computer I have now is an ancient HP Touchsmart310 that's about to explode. I have a list of requirements like a fast processor, so much RAM, etc. that I don't feel like typing up. Basically, I'm looking for a "gaming" laptop with high specs. I won't actually be doing much gaming, but the programs I'm going to have to run for my major will require decent specs. I'm looking at the lenovo ideapad y510p, but honestly I don't know anything about laptops, given my current computer is a desktop and like four years old. I have a budget of around $1000, but honestly I can go a little over if I found something that was worth it.
???
Anyway :P

Unfortunately I'm not a computer nerd, so I'm not much help here.
Anyways, I'm not a huge computer nerd either, but what you are looking for kind of sounds like the laptop I got for school, which is an Acer Aspire M. It's got an intel core i5 and runs windows 8, which is what's listed on the computer XD I believe it's technically a gaming laptop, and while I do some gaming on it, mostly I use it for papers and such. While I don't have any fancy school programs to put on it being an Animal Science major, it seems to support my art program fine and runs with good speed having four internet tabs open, microsoft word and powerpoint open, and any other things I forgot to close out of :) It might be worth looking into; it wasn't too expensive either because I didn't have a large budget when shopping. Good luck finding something that works :3
First of all, you don't need $1000 to get a decent laptop. I spent 400 on mine and it runs all my games and even Photoshop just fine.
