I've noticed with both Windows 8 and 8.1 Pro, I kept getting that every now and then when it comes to processing visual memory.
Stuff like Photoshop and Battlefield 4 somehow managed to trigger it and I totally forgot the error code it gave me.
Anyway, it's been happening since I updated to Windows 8 and stuff. That and my network adapter goes haywire by losing connections. Updated drivers and everything too.
Yeah, its definitely gotten worse since I updates to 8.1. Apparently its a pretty common problem, but I can't fix it :I I would really like to do some drawing ahaha.
i was stuck with win8 for a while and it was awful. honestly, your best bet is to just switch to a different operating system if you can. there's no fixing win8.
I don't want to worry you. But if I recall well, I had the same problem playing with Deus Ex: Human Revolution last year. I think it's the same, since the screeen was so glitchy that it was difficult to understand what was written on, but the sudden crash and eternity to restart were the same.
In my case was mother board failure somewhere, due to overheating (the comuter fan was so silent...), but they basically rebuilt my computer from scratch before understanding the problem.
I can't understand if it's Windows 8 that can't handle the graphic and so makes a mess, or the computer that can't cool enough (do you use an Asus? Maybe optimized for windows 8?)
Sounds like a driver issue, though I've discovered lots of problems trying to re-install drivers on windows 8. :/
As far as I understand if you don't have pro you cant re-install drivers...

I've been looking for help for this as well.
