Religion and MMOs
I've been thinking about two things lately. Seperate issues, but I'll bring them both up here.
First, is about religion. Everyone in the fur fandom knows about Anubis, and more than likely most of them know several of the other Ancient Egyptian gods, too. They're good for the Furry crowd.
But what about other religions? Who do they offer us?
My current icon is an old picture of Saint Christopher, of the Catholic faith. Yes, that's a dog's head on him, and yes that's how that portrat was really made. Translation errors turned an insult for barbarians into him being thought of as having the head of a dog. He's also described as unusually strong, large, and perhaps may have eaten people before his conversion. One book I read suggested him as "The Patron Saint of Werewolves". I liked that. And yet, when's the last time you saw someone draw the guy?
I know there are some other religions out there with animalistic deities and spirits in them. More than I can recall, I'm sure. Are there any someone else cares to mention?

Now, let's talk about MMOs. I know that the Fur crowd is said to mostly hang out in Second Life when it comes to such things, but I'm looking for MMOs that are more game, and less sand(litter?)box.
Someone told me the other day that EQ2 was "Very good" to Furries. Cat people, rat people, Iksar, and even a magic item or two to make you look like a Gnoll. Not bad.
I know alot of people play WoW. But there's really only one good race there as far as anthros go, right? Is that enough?
Myself, I play City of Heroes/City of Villains. I happen to know of some furs that play there, mostly on the Virtue server (The unofficial RP server for CoH/V). Lions, tigers, bears, cheetahs, werewolves, dragons, pigs, rats, and even the occasional giant chicken; I've seen them all on there. And yet, I get the feeling that this game is off of most fur's radar when it comes to MMOs. Sure, it's not perfect, and some of the more interesting costumes take alot of work and you don't want to look at them too close, but it still strikes me as odd that I hear so little about this game.
So my question is: What MMOs do other furs play, and why?

Okay, that's it. Sleepy time now.

(As you may allready know) I also play City of Heroes/Villains and it's relatively easy to make anthromorph characters there. There's never been a more flexible character creation method than here in my game! Seriously, folks, you should give it a try!
Ganesha (elephant)
Hanuman (three heads, monkey/goat/boar)
Akupara (tortoise)
Arva (half horse, half bird. Where the Greek Pegasus came from)
Cerbura (three headed dog. Where the Greek Cerberus came from)
Garuda (King of Birds)
Jambavant (King of Bears)
Kamadhenu (Cow of Plenty)
Nandi (bull)
Sarama (dog)
Sheshnag or Ananta (two names for the same snake god).
Also, Hermes, the Greek messenger god, was first carved with the head of a dog.
The Japanese similarly revered animal spirits in their Kami worship. The Kitsune (fox) and Tanuki (raccoon dog) are both trickster spirits in Japanese myth. The Kitsune is traditionally better at mischief than Tanuki who is lazy and supposedly the antics of both spirits can be warded off by leaving out a bowl of their favorite Udon noodles. ^_^
On MMOs: I don't really play MMOs for their furry content, personally. I mean it's great to run around as a wolf dude in CoX every once in a while, but it isn't my primary reason for playing the game. I play CoX because I love super heroes and the super hero mythos. Or rather, I should say I stopped playing CoX because I love the super hero mythos and CoX doesn't make you feel like you're playing a hero. I play LOTRO as well, but only out of necessity really. I won a lifetime subscription at Digital Life so I feel obligated to use it. I've been playing WoW since it came out and, while there is only one furry race, I don't find myself playing as the Tauren much. I have tried EQ2 and Vanguard as well. Both of those games were just bad compared to WoW and CoX, though. Whether or not a race is furry in an MMO doesn't affect my decision to play them really. I generally look at their history according to the lore of the game and choose based on that.
