Suit Making - Day One
After getting the DTD all cut up I laid out the pattern for one arm on the cheap fabric. Got a good trace and cut it out. Just for some test fitting I sewed it up quickly and tried it on. My hand would not fit through the wrist. I ripped the stitches out and tried again leaving less extra fabric on the outside of the arm. Still no good. This small failure has taught me quite a bit though. I think for the arms and most of the legs I need to do manual measurements and go from that.
If nothing else this suit building will be a learning experience. Now I just need to find stretchy thread.

Okay because one shouldn't ever ever cut up the DTD.

OP
The two suit makers I have talk to say that you do cut it up. You use those pieces as a rough pattern for some cheap fabric to make a rough suit with so you can nip and tuck to get a more custom fit.

Well, they're dumb. I'm sorry. Why keep the dummy? because you can't fit yourself easily. Keep the DTD, wrap it in plastic wrap or trash bags, and take a pattern from that. That way you can fit the dummy and tailor it well.
