Fursuits are never a requirement. Most furries don't have them. No worries! :)

QUESTION:

Have you called Main Event as asked permission yet? They used to allow suitors but as of a couple of years ago we were kicked out because you're not allowed to have your face covered in an establishment in the state of Texas without the OK from the location manager?
The way you say in the journal it sounds like they are on a pick-and-choose basis with who wears their suit and it would be a huge turn off to show up in suit and be immediately turned around

Avrin and Tylenn have talked to the manager in person about this, so we should be good. They said that the manager was enthusiastic!

It probably wouldn't be crazy to check in with them when it gets closer to the date just in case there is a new manager/change of heart on the subject.

What information did you need?

I'm in south Austin visiting for the summer. I don't know anyone and have pretty much just stayed hidden in my uncles house, so this would probably be nice. Issue is... I'm super shy. And I've never done anything in public relating to furry stuff (Hell, it took me like five years to get this account). I worry I'll chicken out at the last minute. But, if I can get the nerve I'll try to show by! I hope the fact I don't technically live in Texas isn't an issue. >_<

The Austin Furs are a very accepting and friendly bunch, It would be awesome for you to come out, I undersand how intimidating an event like this can be but it will be a blast and I know we will all makes some new friends out of this ^^

Not a problem at all, the point is to do something fun and local that you don't have to drive or fly to! It's not just for Texans :)

My 18 year old daughter and I are both looking forward to attending, in our matching red fox partial fursuits that I made, and which we first wore at Worldcon last year. We live in Austin and would love to meet more of the local furries and fursuiters. We've been driving down to San Antonio just to meet with other furries there and go fursuitig with them. I also passed the word on to Xariawolf here on FA, another fursuiter in Austin who I know has been trying to connect with more Austin area fursuiters. Xaria has a class to attend that night, but said that if things are still going by 9 PM she will try to drop by and join in. She has a very nice white and pink wolf fursuit.

I want to say here that I don't know Mix personally, and have never met him. We happen to belong to a few Facebook groups in common. But his posting about your event is the sole reason why myself, my daughter and Xaria will be coming. Not because we are particularly friends with him or anyone else, but simply because he let us know about the event. I wouldn't have known about your event otherwise, and I live in Austin and used to be marginally active with the group that put on a Furry Con here back in 2009 or so. You did ask everyone to spread the word about your event, and he's done some good for you in doing that.

You apparently have interacted with him in the past, and have reasons for your opinion of him. It's your event, and your prerogative to say if someone is unwelcome. But his being there would not be an issue with me, unless he actually caused trouble at the event. It might be more fair to allow him to attend, and simply ask that he be on his best behavior. No one can make a change for the better if you don't give them a chance. At worst, if he causes trouble, you could ask him to leave.

Still undecided if I'll be able to go, may just swing by to say hello. I'm sorry I may not attend this fun event!

Socializing with folks, and there are plenty of games to play at the Main Event. Bowling in fursuit seems to be popular, probably because of the very low physical activity level. Also, anyone NOT wearing a silly costume can soundly beat a fursuiter. |)

So... still sorta nervous about going, but I think I'll do my best to get over there. Its been my first week of work for me (grabbed a late summer job), and I could probably use doing something fun with my off time rather than just going home and passing out. :P

Just, I might be a bit late. I get off of work at 5:30, and I carpool with my Uncle so we'll have to fight Austin traffic to get home. But, if I'm lucky, by 7:00-7:30 I might get there? I hope that would be alright.

You can always poke your head in and see how weird/scary/approachable we look before deciding if you decide to say hi or keep walking...once you pay to get in anyways.

We may look scary, big animal Costumes may be weird to a normal person. But we are super sweet friendly and loving! We will help you try to fit in the best we can! Of course a lot of us don't talk in furSuit (Me included). But those that do will be sure to help you out
