Unfortunately, most parents have the misconception that anyone who isn't their own child on the internet, is a child molester. And that misconception is very difficult to displace, especially around a stigmatised group like furry. Usually, the best way to sway these beliefs is to have them visit a meet or con with you! That way, they can assess the risks realistically because they'll be able to meet the people face to face and out in the open where no harm can come. ovo

Yeah. I'm a much older person (like almost 40 and definitely an adult) and I can't tell you the crazy reactions I got from co-workers when I told them I was going to my first furry convention a few years back. Thanks CSI and other outlets that pasted furries as sex-crazed, porn-faving lunatics.

that's a talk that parents just have to give these days... even though I know it hurts when your parent tells you that they don't trust your judgment. Trust me, it gets easier as you get older.

My mother says the same thing and it irritates me. She thinks I'm going to meet someone and going to be a little kid. And then I'll be a sex offender. I tried to tell her I won't meet up with anybody. But she doesn't listen.

if your mom meets them or talk with one of your friends or two, or like over skype or something, your mom wouldnt worry about them being bad molesters right? the ones she talks to anyways. She knows about furries? i dont think a lot of parents know what furries are yeah? Honestly though, i would worry if i had kids. i wouldnt want them to get hurt and taken away from me like that.

My gamily is not agaisnt it. In fact, I've showed her fur con videos and that made her like the fandom. She's OK with that and both parents are helping me to raise for a digigrade fullsuit from SVC.
Sometimes I can't believe parents are just seeing something and immediately consider whatever they see as a threat. "Believing is to see". If you take your parents to a con, they'll see how playful we are and how light-hearted we are (but Yiff is a no-no for them).

I actually went through that EXACT same scenario. I hope your mom is more understanding than mine was. The only advice I can give is to stay strong. Don't let her get you down. Disregard the bad but take what good you can from what she says.

Don't feel bad, Josh. I agree with bluebone, if I were to tell my mom I was a furry, she would do worse, she'd criticize me and probably tell me the exact same thing. That annoys the living fuck out of me, parents thinking furries are just a bunch of homosexuals looking for teens to molest/rape. They aren't like that. They just wanna express their passion for this by fursuiting (a thing I won't do until I am living on my own), drawing art (like vore, yiff, etc.), and especially going to cons. I think parents should just accept the fact that their sons/daughters are into this, and shouldn't have to bitch about it constantly. It's fucking pointless.
