That made up my mind

I had been wanting to replace my current cell phone for a while, but could not justify the cost of doing so because I am tight for money. Well, today I had my the decision taken out of my hands. My phone was nailed to a pallet. Yes, nailed. I was building a small pallet to ship some goods, and the phone slipped out of my pocket. With a precision that would be utterly impossible to duplicate deliberately, the phone bounced on the pallet directly between it and the nail gun that I was using. Before I could stop myself, the deed was done. My fellow workers got a good laugh out of it. For me though, that pallet cost me several hundred dollars. *sigh*

So sorry about your luck.
But hey if it works for what you need it for, why replace it with something expensive with a ton of functions you won't even use?
Unfortunately doesn't stop people making fun of me...untill I bludgeon them with my phone :p
The last good phone I owned was the Motorola Razr, which for as simple as it was it worked for calling and texting...and with-stood my rough teenage life (falling out of pockets, throwing, dropping, water, etc).
Bludgeon.. nice.
I agree though.. mine isn't a smart phone, but it does have a slide out keypad. I much prefer that to one of the smartphones with an on screen keyboard.
If you want a smartphone for little money, might be worth looking for used Blackberries. If you can do without those features, there are quite a few old style mobiles around: Two+ weeks without recharging!
Any idea what you're looking at as a replacement?
And holy crap cellphones are stupidly expensive.
Hopefully the SIM Card wasn't damaged; if you can find a used model of your current phone or the like you might be able to save a little bit of money and just transplant the sucker.
That's almost as bad as a friend losing his out of his buttoned shirt pocket. Only his bounced on the dock and into the bay. He got to watch it sink about four feet then explode from the battery.
Sorry to hear about the unwanted costs.
I'm still using my 15 year old nokia 3310 and aside from the battery having been replaced recently i've had no problems with so far and it's gotten wet and dropped more times than I care to remember, it even took a tumble down a flight of stairs once.
If that happens with today's smart phones you'd have to get a new one since it's either in a million pieces or the screen gets shattered.
Least it was just the phone and not your hand or foot, still sucks about the costs though =/

Generally, though, the employer's insurance wouldn't kick in for damage to personal property.
For phones I normally replace em every 12 months taking advantage of how shitty the US market is. Good unlocked smartphones that work across a lot of carriers are difficult to grab in the high end. So I just buy one overseas for import or go through a developer program and sell it 12 months later when the new one comes out and the phone retains at least half if not 3/4ths of its original value. No contracts, no subsidy premiums, and its normally less than $100 to upgrade each year. Two years I actually made money. heck unlocking iPhones used to have a $200+ premium to em... thats how I used to screw AT&T every year when they were exclusive... granted the original I had on T-Mobile. ^.~
Speaking of phones I still have my optus sim card from when I was over in your country. Wish I could have stayed longer tho. Still sad I didn't see any Kangaroos in the kangaroo exhibit. :(
=^.~=
I hope you find something! *hugs*
