Can is not the same as must..
Just watched how to train your dragon 2 and it was amazing!!! Like awesomely awesome! *hyper ventilates* a few references from the 'Riders of Berk' series but nothing huge that effects the whole storyline. It was just awesome!

the tv series was supposed to link this and the last movie together so it sounds like they did a good job of it

Dunno but I didn't find anything major within the movie that tells a small little something or reference from the TV series. I expected Stoick to have Thornado but he had a different dragon.
