One I've always kinda wanted was the puzzle box from Hellraiser, which I've seen plenty low quality replicas for but I've never seen a high quality one that can actually move/shift correctly. I'd also love to get a high quality version of the killer spheres from Phantasm. I've never been willing to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars people want for such a thing so it's just a languishing desire.

I've never heard of a fully functional Hellraiser box (my aunt would kill for one! ;D )
I've seen some that change from one to a second shape.


I know someone who makes all metal Phantasm spheres: Well, used to , they actually machined solid aluminum spheres!

I considered making these when I made the Dangerball, but for the Phantasm sphere if it isn't completely reflective it just wouldn't look right (and to my knowledge there's no real "mirror" paint out there!)

You're right of course, even the guys who made the original puzzle box for the movie used a rod controller and three different boxes, one to look good, one that has a portion that slides out and then down, then a final box that forms the star shape. I'm know that there's actually a fandom of people who build more and more complicated Rubix Cube type of puzzles, perhaps one of them could build a puzzle box that does most of the functions and build it in a 3D program then print it with a 3D printer so you could get internal sliding mechanisms that wouldn't be possible with building by hand. All of the boxes I can find are either just plastic with the inlays spray painted or electro plated, or wooden with brass overlays. I'd love to see someone build it with solid brass and acid etch the complex patterns into the sides. Perhaps build it with brass/copper plates then weld them together and then sand/grind the welds down till they were completely smooth and imperceptible.

I agree about the phantasm sphere, it should either be chrome plated or maybe a type of really bright steel.

Have you watched Jimmy Diresta's videos on Youtube? He's built some really interesting items by hand recorded the process.

Problem with making large items like those is that most people would have no where to fit them!
