New Garrus Backstory and Abilities Clarification! NSFL
11 years ago
Well, I'll put the clarification first because the story is kinda NSFW and large.
Garrus is a semi-organic-semi-synthetic rubber, I changed that briefly and recently so it explains why he's still capable of being "alive" and maybe paves new ways to explain how he absorbs energy from his hosts - also explains why he gets tired without a host and his seemingly fast evolution and adaptations to situations rather than just "Uh yeah, he's rubber so he's immune to that."
His body isn't rubber as we know though, it's something that's very close but very advanced and tinkered by aliens as a type of armour that, in current backstory, was measured to be fitted in a safe quantity to specialist soldiers. Garrus is the way he is because he had the entire tank pour onto him and his body's genetics carried over some of his species detail while his consciousness merged through his brain being destroyed by the merge. Confining him to this strange, shiny form.
He's capable of:
- Stretching either in liquid form, in solid form.
- Shape shifting to many sizes and forms, but is restricted to blue colours and black colours, exception of his eyes which a normally yellow.
- Form changing - liquid to solid, solid to liquid, semi-liquid with say, his arms and shoulders becoming more solid to be able to hold a metal rod. He gets tired being in solid form for too long, so this is a good balance of his energy to give him capability of holding heavy things or swinging stuff.
- Potent pheromones - being a cobra who was venomous prior to being rubberized, it only served to evolve into pheromones that helped control his hosts inside if they resisted or in most cases, were applied anyway. Effects are often kinky, like inducing orgasm, muscle relaxant.
- Symbiotic attachment, a curse and a blessing, he can attach with his malleable form in spectacular fashion, lots of arcing and stringyness in a grand explosion of goo flowing outwards to trap somebody and bond with them on a cellular level to absorb energy. It can be painful if he leaves his host instantly as it means withdrawing from their skin and may cause damage if he was bonded deeply physically in the same situation.
- Changing the body of the host, he can do this but it requires a lot of energy, a good few hours at the quickest, simplest changes.
- Of course, being liquid and liquid control of his body. Being liquid you're somewhat more animate and resistant to the pull of gravity, you can be any shape like jets of water. You can be separated into many parts and as long as they're not pulled too far away from eachother, I'd say Garrus can control his body no matter how many parts he is separated into, unless he's molecularly decimated or atomically being ripped apart. If he gets split into two, he can choose from a telepathic link that runs through his body, which mass he wants to be dominant in or reform in, he could even act simultaneously in multiple parts but this takes effort the more complex it is.
- 360* vision and senses BUT, he can see all around, being goo, he can taste in any part of his body, hear with his tail, his eyesight only sees colour in his peripheral vision through his eyes. You cannot possibly imagine how hard this was for him to adapt to at first, it's like being permanently able to see from the back of your head while you think you're looking forwards.
I'd say when he isn't looking with his eyes, what he does see isn't exactly in much colour, it's blue and various tones of blue, from light reflecting off objects to him. No it's not sonar, he couldn't spot anyone much better by hearing than an organic could.
This was part of the features the armour had that was applied to alien soldiers. To us, the requirements are insane, to them, it was a necessity to learn to use it.
Weaknesses -
** See, this is no more Mary Sue than a robot character "Oh, yeah you tore his arm off? Yeah his "mind" is in his head, even if you tear that off, he's still in there." - Garrus can just be disabled by temperature and burned out of existence. He's not a conventional character so he's not really weak to conventional methods of killing. **
- Fire and heat, whether it's fire applied, he's not flame resistant for very long, anything that prolongs burning and is sparking or on fire will eventually set him alight, though he can just snuff the flame out. Weapons that keep burning are a big problem, like flamethrowers and napalm.
- Extreme cold, makes him brittle, eventually freezes him and is the best way to contain him if you can't seal him into something watertight.
- While these aren't physical, he's not good with technical and software use. He can't steal memories from hosts, is vulnerable to lack of inside knowledge if he impersonates somebody through voice or shape.
- I'd believe that microwave radiation would cause him to boil into an unstable mess on the floor, the retained heat would cause him to stay liquid.
- Airtight seals. Kinda self explanatory, if you're in a heavy metal suit that's air tight and I'm climbing to break in and force bond with you, you're safe until I can find a way in :V
Combat -
I'd say Garrus typically relies on melee combat with a swig of liquid lifeform advantages mixed in, any you can think of like immunity to slashing and bullets.
Ideally though he's:
- A melee fighter
- Travels lightweight
- Guerilla warfare fighter, he'll take your knife or whatever is around if he can get it.
- Isn't a massively trained marksman
- Powered armour and hi-tech weapons are only rare occurences
- Often is naked or wears light things like belts or harnesses so that they don't interfere with his engulfing of victims. Cloaks for easy pull off and max body coverage if he's in shark form.
- Four armed in snake form, acrobatic melee guy in shark form. Imagine the boxing moves he could pull off as a snake though.
Garrus Universe and Time/Era
- Sci-fi, far future.
- Space travel is easy and "Earth race" has spread across the galaxy
- Set in a time where aliens co-exist easily and are virtually everywhere, some are like mixes of Earth animals or variants who are equally curious of us.
- A different world of technological advancement, it's not as easy as "oh we cured cancer, it's not a problem now" - new technologies and races brought new problems to the table and new errors come up in their technology as always. No office is paperless.
As for Garrus' new backstory. - this isn't intended to be good writing, this is just the main points and timeline of events and explanation.
I did originally think of this as set in the current day of our world, but instead of humans it was anthro characters. Very X-Men inspired, as I've been a long time fan of the universe and their mutants concept, the persecution, the life changes, the denial, the fear and wishing it wasn't you that was a mutant.
To start off, this is in the same time line as above, sci fi, over thousands of years, one in billions sporadically is born into the next step of evolution, not through birth defects but an actual change in DNA that either allows for massive changes or was developed in such a way that powers would manifest later in their lives.
Garrus was an intersexed male cobra-thresher shark hybrid. One parent was a naga, the other a shark, medical science had long advanced to the point where two species could produce dual species offspring without defects or the need for intervention during pregnancy.
He was a snake-shark, bipedal with a shark's head, fangs of his father, no cobra hood, his skin already very smooth and streamlined.
As Garrus went through puberty, he suffered bullying in school, being known as the intersexed male, all sorts of abuse and confusion as to what he was when it came to relationships. Many tolerated it seeing that it wasn't their business but felt a little strange when he looked to them as a boyfriend or girlfriend.
His hips began to widen, but his chest and above the waist, stayed the same, he developed a lower body half that was to his dismay, massively female and incredibly well toned and shaped, so much so that it was the envy of girls and even models. Serving only to confuse him more as he suffered at the hands of his body's unwilling and merciless changes to accommodate his female genitals and his womb.
Birthing hips but no breasts to come with it. His face stayed male, his shoulders and pectoral area was athletic but not hugely muscular over the averagely fit guy. He didn't like it one bit, having to change to women's fit clothing much to his embarassment. His flesh grew this way and was irreversible in its current state, his skin seemed to become elastic and more rubbery. He put that down to his hormonal transformation.
The more he fretted, seemingly the more his body curved, his skin turned more rubber-like and the rate which his hips widened, sped up. It was as if his body changed more quickly the more stressed he became over it.
This is actually an early "pre-blossoming" effect of his powers to come, his body would begin to show signs of his powers manifesting, until a point where he would eventually go into overdrive and his changes would make themselves known in a spectacular fashion in a very short time period.
Eventually he started to cover up, unable to really hide his tail and his skin colour's shift to sapphire blue and then jet black. He was afraid to show the full extent of his body in public to anyone, even in college. His eyes turned a strangely pupilless, blank yellow. He eventually stopped coming out of his house, only with the help of a generous room mate did he continue for a few months, barely leaving his room for anything. He stopped eating, for long periods of time. Many thought this was a benefit of his snake heritage but it was much longer than any snake could have gone without food.
He emerged from his room, deciding he would have a hot bath. Maybe it'd do something for his skin.
Lifting his long, sleek legs that the best models would kill for, he sat back, put the plug in. But before he could turn the tap on, he noticed he was already slippery in the bathtub. Looking down, he realised his soles of his feet were melting, his hands, ears, all extremities were melting.
Garrus panicked, not knowing what to do, the best thing he could do was contain his melting body in the bath in the hopes something could cure it. He screamed for help, a few minutes, long minutes, went past. Nobody came, he screamed one last time before he sunk in and his own liquid body muffled it.
A strange view happened to come to his realisation, physically, he could see as if his entire peripheral vision was limited to the width of the bath tub. Like his whole mass was in the tub was his eyes. He heard running, his friend came in. Looking for him, the window was closed, the cupboards weren't hiding him, fearing for his safety and his mental state, he rotated on the spot trying to think where Garrus was. He looked at the black liquid in the bath tub. It couldn't be, suspiciously it reminded him of Garrus' strange black latex-like skin. He poked at it with his index finger, finding it was stringy and it wouldn't let go, He tried to use his other hand to pull it off but it was slimy and elastic.
It crawled up his arms, coating them neatly and tightly as he recoiled backwards, pulling the rest of it with him as it seemingly opened up like a blooming flower and landed on him.
Garrus woke up on the cold bathroom floor, curled up in a fetal position. He felt strange, not quite comprehending his fuzzy vision that seemed to be able to view things in a 360* angle, facing every direction like a sphere. He thought it must be drugs, somebody must have spiked his drink and he was just hallucinating. But he hadn't drank anything, not to his memory, for months. He felt a strange sensation, completely naked, but as if he could feel clothes while not wearing any.
Garrus crawled to his couch in the living room and slammed himself into it. He felt heavy, looking down at his body and touching his thighs. He seemed to be able to see in all directions but with colour only when he looked forward. He laid there, waiting for a few minutes, his head still hazy as to what happened and still feeling a sensation like that of when one snaps out of a daydream but constantly.
He remembered something vaguely like reaching out for his friend's hand in the bathtub, as if his friend offered him a helping hand but couldn't quite picture it, he felt energized upon awaking but hazy, then he was here, now, on the couch. Where did his room mate go?
Could it seriously be that he melted in the bathtub and feeling clothes on the underside of his skin was actually that he was being worn by his friend?
Weeks passed and his friend who was known to go staying at other friend's dorms without telling, was still missing. Garrus stood up after a long few weeks of staying inside, he felt a need to stretch his arms outwards, arch his back and puff his chest out. Why, he wasn't sure but he did it. To his panic, his skin on the underside of his arms and his front of his chest, legs and midriff started to split and tear, revealing his friend inside. He thought it must be another hallucination, he must be going insane. His friend fell forward and slumped on the floor as Garrus jumped back in horror. There he was, unconscious, inside him the whole time. Garrus finally realised he wasn't normal anymore, not like he was before as a wide hipped, half male-half female monstrosity he thought he was. He was some kind of latex parasite, he felt a strange urge to clasp around somebody, to make physical contact with them. It wasn't a strong craving like for nicotine, it could wait. But it was a strange hunger.
Fast forward a few weeks and Garrus is now a sapphire blue, living latex symbiote, taking hosts by stealth attacks across the city, he learned when he was no longer normal, that his body was not normal and that in his natural black or blue latex form, it wasn't something to be ashamed of, especially when he could take the shape of anyone who had a distinctly blue colour to their fur or scales and never have to wear clothing again. He had to concentrate to keep himself solid or parts of himself solid. He'd travel completely naked, shifting to liquid at will, embracing his predatory heritage and his new predatory form. He was proud of what he had become, if not fond of his strange split gender secretly. He would prey on the unsuspecting, bonding with them and silencing them with his liquid form, covering their mouths as he encased them in himself.
Every host he had, if he didn't knock them out, which would be rare if he didn't at this point, would notice a distinctly phallic gag from the inside of his sealed up mouth, pumping something into their throats (the pheromones being pumped in by his cocktongue turned cock shaped gag).
His genetic info combined with his shapeshifting, means that he was now able to shapeshift freely into two natural forms - shark biped and naga, without any trouble, or anything in between if he wished. It would be something not in his genetic code immediately that he would have to use effort to become.
That's a very badly summarized backstory for Garrus which I feel won't be as popular as his alien exploration one but I feel this one deals with his transformation more deeply and psychologically, and I love the idea of mutants in X-Men, the fact its not a choice that you suddenly find your body has changed at a great trade off of an incredible power. But you will forever never be able to look normal again.
I'm actually wondering about maybe
xenolugia150 or
amethystine to possibly take it on as a commissioned story for me.

FA+

And actually, since you're a writer too, how did I not think of you on this, maybe sometime I could commission you to write up the backstory while I explain through it? :P
i suppose being bubbly (happy) could be literalized but thats obviously not for a predator to do. XD
