Something all artistes should know but don't

The NT kernel (The core of every Windows OS starting with Windows 2000.) has drivers for Wacom tablets but they suck so Wacom made their own and gave them to everyone.
This means when you install the stuff on that disk you have two drivers doing the same thing which causes problems simmer to a virus.
As you are corrupting the kernel the only way to fix it in a hybrid system like Windows is to reinstall the OS.
Here is what you can do to stop this.
Install Linux, (Zorin looks and acts like Windows, well elementary OS is more like MacOS X.) we have full support for Wacom tablets and they work well.
We can run PhotoShop in Wine.

(Just install Wine from your package manager (It's like Apple's AppStore.) and run the EXE like you would on Windows.)
SAI brakes in Wine but MyPaint it smiler.

(The Windows port sucks.)
If you have other things you need that don't work on Linux, have a usable alternative, or work in Wine then you can install Linux beside Windows and pick the one you want when you boot your computer. (Switching will require rebooting.)

:P

*head explodes from not understanding anything about computers*
Can you post the source of your information? If it only affect windows 2000?
The OS I want to use is my choice! I will remain with windows 7 or vista until they are not supported anymore. Once they are not, I may considerate to switch to linux or another alternative.
I've tested it myself.
I mean staring with 2000 and going up to 8.
That's fine.

Like I said, this is only with Wacom tablets/
TLDR: Windows is still going to be used. Linux and other free alternatives will continue to be obscure to the public </3
I did notice that openGL seem to be getting more popular now as the demand for gaming on linux seem to increase! (openGL is compatible with linux o3o)
as for apple....don't bother for multiplatform lol
If you are a developer, what OS are you going to focus on? Are you going to focus on Linux, a highly disorganized and fractured family of OSs, which is dominated by a very small population with a strong distrust, bordering pure hatred for anything closed source and for profit.. Or are you going to focus on Windows, an OS with a massive market penetration and an environment that is very conducive to business with the support of a company that has essentially built the modern digital landscape? The community itself kills Linux just as much as the OS's reliance on command lines and general distaste of fully practical GUIs.
The *NIX community needs to drop this mindset that everything needs to be open source and that to do otherwise makes you impure. When I was reading reviews of Mint, I had to facepalm every time I saw people cry over the fact they included proprietary software so they can provide things like Flash and DVD support. As long as Unix & Linux supporters keep this mentality, the OS will never be able to supplant Windows. This should be a golden opportunity for Linux, with the massive backlash from Windows 8.. Yet nothing has happened. There has been no capitalization on Microsoft's mistake.
Though, perhaps thats for the best. I doubt most *NIX diehearts would like it if it became mainstream.
Also, on the original topic.. I cant seem to find any sources to back this story about kernel corruption and Wacom drivers.
XD
Not all of us but ya, I see what you're saying. Better work on it.
We have lots of GUIs...
I've done that.
Hmhmhm.
It's the idea of running two drivers for the same task.
While indeed bad practice from a programming side, I am seeing little support for any particularly negative consequences for doing it from the consumer side.
And by not liking Linux if it became mainstream.. It would be forced, by necessity to become something more like Windows. It would forced to become a digital Fort Knox, preventing you from breaking your computer on your own while also having to fortify it against a mountain of viruses and hackers trying to crack it. The burden of keeping a Windows environment safe is huge. I don't think most Linux developers are even remotely prepared for those challenges. Especially not at $13 a copy like Zorin OS or completely free like Mint. A copy of Win7 will run you almost $100... But it also comes with 11 years of constant support from Microsoft. I don't see the folks behind Zorin supporting Zorin 8 in a decade. Thats just unreasonable. The fact Windows XP will still have limited support till 2019 is absurd. That is an eternity in software time.
What do you mean?
Not really. Open source programs often have better security. We have already proven this when we became the new master race of the server world and got less viruses despite the web growing.
We have LTS distros (Even if none of them last 20 years.)
Open source programs often have better security through obscurity. And master race of the server world? Windows is still doing incredibly well in the server world. Depending upon who you ask, Windows is either holding its own or still blowing Linux away in market shares. I wouldn't say Linux is the master race. Microsoft Exchange has no real competition, leaving it the go to for any and all email and communication solutions. Exchange works on Windows and works best with Windows. Windows Server 2008 and 2012 are both very solid OSs that provide a massive array of services while operating together seamlessly.
Viruses can infect servers just as easily as desktops and most of the viruses servers get weren't actually intended for servers. Servers are, for the most part, just beefier computers. If Linux became mainstream, you'd see a surge in viruses appearing for it and these viruses would inevitably make their way to Linux servers as well. Server security also depends a lot on whats connecting to it. Servers that connect to the web are exposed. They become incredibly vulnerable. If a heavily infected machine connects to it, it can compromise the integrity of the server. Linux servers dont have to worry about this because there aren't many infected Linux machines trying to connect to them. WinServer's virus problems are only because it is, essentially, a souped up desktop. Server 2008 isn't all that much different than Win7.
IBM killed them off there, sadly we haven't done the same to the home market.
Well this I know, Linux is much better in the arena then Windows, (Not all of them but yes this one.) even just the file system helps us quite a bit.
Linux has two strengths. It doesn't default to the admin account and it is obscure. Not defaulting to the admin account, you can get around that. There are still plenty of ways to jack up a system without admin rights and if you start making it a high profile business to crack them, I am sure plenty more ways can be found.
Oh we have lots of others, and every hacker in the world knows about Linux.
(Now if you said Plan 9 I would give you that one.)
(Yes I know that can go agents Linux too.)
I think I will definitely check out Zorin OS though, it looks pretty interesting. Ill probably install it on my experimental machine. I am running three computers. A laptop I am afraid of touching because I don't know laptops very well, my gaming Desktop that I dont want to mess with too much because it has a lot of underlying issues that I can't afford to fix so all I can really do is keep an eye on and be careful about making changes, and my experiment computer, running some ancient CPU, the loudest HDD I have ever heard in my life, and rocking a good old 125w PSU :P Right now that machine is running... Linux Mint... I am wanting to say 14. I am not a huge Linux fan, I prefer Windows if only because I know how to make Windows do everything I could ever want it to do and I can trust that it will always do what I need it to do, but I am always curious about options out there. But... Until games like SC2 support Linux... I cant say I'd ever take a serious look at making it my main OS.
<3
Cool, let me know what you think.
It's been getting better bet we still have a way to go.
^-^
Forget Macbeth, the word virus is way more Jinxed.
If the kernel goes out it all goes to hell.
'
Everyone is allow to have they OS preference.
This happened to a lot of people on this site before I did this.
I KNOW!
In the case of linux, you have more control about what kernel you want to use (I prefer stability over <bleeding> edge personally =p) and I did update mine a few time. I love that feature I would say since it can fix some issue (or cause some).
I sadly lack a lot's of knowledge about linux =/
Yesh, it is cool.
That's OK.
But what I noticed, Linux had issues with Wacom? The pressure usually failed to work and it was all wobbly (like when your tablet glitches and you have to reload preferences)
I'll happily check the others you listed, I love testing new OS's.
I think we fixed that as mine works just fine.
Cool.
Linux is a good system, but not for the seriously creative stuff. Mac OSX and Windows are better for those.
No really, it's true.
