Questions for Commissioners:
(Copypasted from DA) Quick poll of sorts for people who have/do commission art from other artists... I'm trying to do some marketing research before I re-open, lol
1. Do you prefer to plot out all the details of your commission yourself, or let the artist have more free reign? (i.e., do you say "i want my character doing this with this expression and this pose in this bg," or are you more of a "here's my character, have fun" type of orderer?)
2. Does the artist live-streaming the commission increase it's desirability to you? If an artist had slots available for a commission that would be done in a livestream, versus ones done in the traditional "off-camera" way, are the streamed commissions more intriguing to you? Would you purchase a commission during a stream that you otherwise wouldn't have considered?
3. Similar to question 1, do you like to pick out the exact style your art is done in, or are you ok with more randomized results? For example, if an artist could do drawings as speedpaints, realism, clean, stylized - a variety of styles - would you like to choose a specific style for your commission, or would you rather have the artist pick whichever they're 'feeling' for your character?
4. For very stylized characters, how much are you willing to compromise? For example if you had a character that was always drawn in a consistent exaggerated way (overly skinny, furry, or disproportionate to the species, as an example) and you commissioned a more realistic artist, do you expect all those stylizations to be kept, even if they don't translate well? Or are you willing to let more wild aspects of the character's design be neutralized? Is keeping the consistent style of your character a must-have for you, or do you like seeing how artists choose to represent your character?
Just some curiosity from me! You can answer one or two questions or all four if you'd like, anything helps. Please only answer if you have commissioning experience (you have commissioned another artist to draw for you before) or you're seriously considering commissioning someone. I'm really interested to hear responses!
Thaaaaanks guys

2. Livestreams are nice when I am able to make them, but I find it inconvenient when an artist expects me to be there. Yes, sometimes I will impulsively buy a commission in a stream but only from an artist I would have commissioned anyways if they were open.
3. I like an artists style for each commission type to be fairly consistent. If I am commissioning a full rendered painting and expect it to look like their other fully rendered paintings, I might be disappointed if it's very different. That said, if I'm commissioning a wing-it type commission and I KNOW the style will be played with for each one, I'm okay with that!
4. I am not sure that I really have much experience in this, I do have a few odd characters, like a wolf with long ears and a long tail http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums.....psf6b50ffd.jpg if I were to get something realistic of her, I wouldn't want her ears or tail shortened (everyone does anyways lol). I understand she doesn't look like a wolf is supposed to of course, but she is still supposed to have those attributes and I'd want them kept.
I also don't like when people make mostly black eyes in realism if my characters have light green eyes, I feel like if somebody is being a realistic artist in a community of people with unrealistic characters, they should try their best to stay true to the characters traits as well as their own style, even if it's hard to learn how to do
Hope that helps out! I will watch for you to open, I've always wanted art from you!
2. Livestreaming definitely adds something to the experience for me, but I think I've only gotten one commission from in a stream? I don't know that I'd be more likely to commission them during or for a stream than normally, to be honest. If I'm commissioning them, I was gonna do it one way or another. It seems like a fun perk, but not necessarily something that would draw me in that much.
3. In contrast with my #1 answer, I normally do like picking which specific style is used.
4. I'm one of those people who is very lenient about character designs. There are a few minor things that I'll be specific with (things I feel are important to the character) but those are always things I clearly state beforehand. But I feel like if I, personally, was going to commission a more realistic artist, I'd choose... a character that isn't stylized. XD I want the commission to look good aesthetically and heavy stylization often doesn't translate well to more realistic styles. I think this is something that would have to be discussed very carefully with the customer since some people can have very personal attachments to their designs. I think it's also good to be upfront and realistic about your own expectations/experience with stylizing and realism. If it's something you don't think will look good or you feel you can't quite pull off, communicate that. I think this one is a very variable answer for that reason.
2) I haven't really watched much livestreaming
1. I generally go into commissions with an idea already in mind. The level of details depends on the specific illustration and varies from a fair amount of artistic freedom to descriptions down to the tiniest detail. Not a particular fan of my own perfectionist attitude in that regard, so I do try to limit it at times.
2. I have no preference for or against livestreaming. It would be cool for noticing errors or making changes before it's too late, but I haven't run into problems without livestreamed pieces yet.
3. I also generally have the type already decided going into a commission.
4. I commission different artists because of their styles, so I generally let them do it their way. Besides the obvious visual references and some other specifics, I like to let the artists do what they do their own thing.s visual references and some other specifics, I like to let the artists do what they do their own thing.
2. Not really. If an artist offers stream-only commissions (like, you have to be in the stream to buy a slot) that makes me less likely to buy them. I don't like feeling like I'm obligated to sit in a stream. If they happen to work on a commission of mine during a livestream, that's fine! I'll occasionally sit in on them if it's a friend/artist I really like, but even then I'm generally doing other stuff in the background. I wouldn't pay extra just to have something of mine livestreamed.
3. If an artist has a certain style of commission that catches my eye, I'll pick that one, but I am definitely willing to let the artist run with it! If someone offers "experimental" commissions, those are almost always going to be the ones I ask for.
4. My characters are all designed somewhat realistically. If I had one whose proportions or specific aspects of anatomy really defined them, I'd probably prefer they be kept, but even so, if I like someone's art enough to commission them I trust their interpretation of my character pretty well. I try not to be too picky about things!
