Minor situation update - computer
11 years ago
I was able to convince mom to let me have the computer back, so I could get my resume and bank statements off. Then I convinced her furthermore to let me keep it, as long as they take away my network adapter so I no longer have internet access, but can still use it for school stuff.
She agreed, but I'm not taking any chances. At this moment, I'm backing everything up on my external hard drive. It's a new drive, so hopefully it won't roll over and die before I find a way out of here. :V
Mom still says she wants to find a way to get money though, so I need to keep an eye out in case she starts looking through my belongings or something.
So crisis averted for the most part, but I still need to proceed with caution.

Also my brother's out with my car. :V
Including living condition standards and the like.... you are technical not living with them you are a tenant, they touch your stuff you can call the cops. They also can't just kick you out... .depends on the state but usually there is a 30 day eviction notice required.
You want to really nail them to stop this shit, next month give them a check with "rent payment" on the memo line. I they want there money they will have to cash it, that or get a money order and keep the stub.
Then they can't say to anyone that you arn't paying rent, you can be here look I am... you can check my back account and look up the check... they signed and cashed it.
As a tenant there are a LOT of laws protecting you from stuff like this.
They also can't shut of your power/internet access if that's part of your agreement. You can sue the hell out of them over stuff like this, and all you have to do is say it's all over sexual discrimination and they will have the book thrown at them.... because then it can be considered a hate crime.
The want to play hard ball, you play hard ball.
IF SHE TAKES ANYTHING CALL THE COPS ASAP
SHE TAKES YOUR MONEY, EATS OUT, AND FORCES YOU TO EAT RAMEN
FUCK HER.
for one
Fair Housing LAW
Discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability is against the law. The resources on this page will help you to understand your rights and to find out where to go for help.
Accsess to the Primisis (the room)
The landlord shall not abuse the right of access nor use it to harass the tenant.
Then there is:
Florida Law does not allow a landlord to force a tenant out by:
Shutting off the utilities or interrupting service, even if that service is under the control of the landlord or the landlord makes the payment;
Changing the locks or using a device that denies the tenant access;
Removing the outside doors, locks, roof, walls or windows (except for purposes of maintenance, repair or replacement); and/or
Removing the tenant's personal property from the dwelling unless the action is taken after the surrender, abandonment, or recovery of possession of the dwelling unit due to the death of the last remaining tenant in accordance with section 83.59(3)(d), or after lawful eviction.

I am having a hard time finding laws for what happens when your being stolen from as a tenate but it is a fellony
They deffently can't raise the rent because you made them mad.
Unless she's really technologically savvy, she won't know how to get around it and thus won't be able to access any sort of function on your computer.
Also, if anything like that happens again, the police need to get involved, no questions asked. Someone taking property that you paid for and selling it for their gain is still considered theft, family member or not.
Granted, that was older PCs.
Some motherboards have a security switch on it as added protection against it. I believe my motherboard has a specific set of pins near the processor that protect the CMOS/BIOS data unless you rearrange the plastic covers on them.
1.) Is it just you and your mother?
2.) Does your mother work?
3.) Do you work?
4.) How do you go about paying your mother for rent? Cash or via check? (I advise check as this creates a paper trail in the event you need to prove you are "paying" to live there and not just stayig as a child with his (her) parent. )
5.) Are there any local furs you can hook up with and go together on with a room? If it just your mom living off you then the ride needs to end. Your an adult and you need to take care of yourself first. If you pay rent then you have control of your things and your room. Her just taking the computer is highly illegal (theft) and you need to be flat honest with her. "Mom, you take that and I will call the cops. Do not touch my shit unless I give you permsision). Sometimes you have to be firm and not back down.
6.) Why is she letting you have it back with out the network adapter? Why does she not want you online? I sense there much more to this story. Please let us know so we can fully understand and provide help and info that is releavant to your true situation.

Move your assets to a separate account or something. She's stealing your things. Family or not, that's wrong.
