After a few weeks of being a bit weaker than usual, our cat passed away today...
When i woke up i heard some noises coming from the kitchen, i went to see and there he was, struggling to breathe. He couldn't move anymore, or meow. He could only move a bit the eyes, and was almost chocking. He was covered by saliva and piss, dunno how much the poor cat was like this, but when i ran to my sister's room to wake her up we took him to the vet immediately. The poor cat was watching me with his tired eyes... I could feel him crying inside, but still recognized me, and purred as i was petting him on our way there. I believe that was his way to say thank you for staying with me now that i'm going...
The boss of the place attended us personally in an emergency, since she owns one of the cats my cats gave birth to. When we saw her coming to us almost crying we knew it was no good. The cat was fatal, struggling and agonizing. She sincerely recommended ending with his suffering, and that we did...
At least he's not suffering anymore... poor thing, if you just had seen him...
We took it to our grandparent's house, and when they saw us coming they asked what we were there for. My sister just pointed at the bag where we were carrying him, and my grandma said "what happens to him" Nothing anymore... Even she cried with us...
So while they were there i went with my grandfather to dig the grave for him, under a tree in their lawn. My heart just broke in a million pieces when we left him there, and started covering him...
I'm going to miss him so much...
I'm setting him as an icon to remember all these years he has given us
Rest in piece...

He then vanished a day later, we assume to pass on..it was faster than we could get vet treatment. I'd never seen an animal go downhill so fast. =/
I'm glad in your case he was able to find peace with you in his last moments. Take comfort in knowing you gave him a loving home and a wonderful life to live. You done good.
at least you have the chance to say to him good bye...
where I never had the chance to say to my dog goodbye...
