You basically need to understand what you're drawing in order to draw it; beneath the outline of the figure are a series of structures all of which obey rules. Bones are easy, muscles are harder (you have no idea how stupid the human shoulder joint is until you study it) and skin and hair you're probably better off learning from life studies because it's complex.
A great starter art book is "How to Draw What You See" by Rudy De Reyna. Don't skip the lessons that seem pointless; those dumb exercises in drawing and shading cylinders, cubes and spheres they made you do in art class are actually to teach you how to make the fundamental shapes from which you can make literally anything. A great anatomy resource is "Human Anatomy for Artists" by AndrĂ¡s Szunyoghy. I've also heard good things about "How to Draw Comics the "Marvel" Way" by Stan Lee.
Do not buy anything by Christopher Hart, the man is a talentless hack who has no clue what he's talking about.
One furry-related pair of how to books that are more useful are Draw Curries and Draw More Furries by Lindsay Cibos and Jared Hodges. You'll still need your fundamentals and anatomy to get the most out of them, obviously, most artists will tell you never to try using a "how to draw X" book as a be-all and end-all reference even if it's a good one.
Also sorry I didn't re-post your meme, I'd like to but I'm worried I would find time to reply to anyone if they actually tagged me. Busy trying to get my desktop PC up and running so I can do some drawing. :)
