What IS Satanism?
It must be emphasized that:
We are not an official Church of Satan group. We are not here on behalf of the Church of Satan. We are not a "Satanic Community."
We are a group on FurAffinity that are made up of individuals who follow the Church of Satan and the works of Anton LaVey.
A lot of people send us notes asking a simple question: "What is LaVeyan Satanism?" Out of all the questions we are asked, I find this question to be the hardest to answer for a couple of reasons:
1) There isn't really a short, simple answer. I have yet to settle on a copy/paste description of Satanism that doesn't require elaboration.
2) LaVeyan Satanism is largely rooted in self-determinism. Because every practitioner is their own god, they develop their own values and pursue their own goals, effectively creating their own "brand" of the philosophy.
LaVeyan Satanism seems to be very elastic: you can stretch it into whatever form that you wish, but in the end, Satanism is Satanism; the philosophy retains its basic structure.
Do you have a short, effective description of LaVeyan Satanism? What is Satanism to you? I think it'd be cool to see the comments of this journal filled with different depictions of Satanism, just to showcase how diverse its practitioners are, and to highlight the common threads that we all share.

(Make of that what you will, I just got up and can't think of anything.)
I view it as an outlook, a perspective held by an individual. His world is his own, and he shapes it as he sees fit.
I use the Devil to my advantage, I learned who he was as a person and how he was living.
In some ways we are the same, we both got no limits. You make a goal, go get it. You reach the lowest point keep digging.
And I ended up in Hell's Kitchen. People plottin', words don't mean shit when honesty is forgotten. Most people would change if they knew their god wasn't watching.
Ignorance got them blinded. You're back against the wall, with the Devil behind it. I'm just a young angel who's military minded. People change like the climate.
You gotta make it through hell to know what the real grind is. No fear, I speak to the devil, he let me know that he's here when niggas down fakin', he whispered in my ear and said
that's something I would do. Positive means never let the negative bother you. If what you speak is fake, then you wont be able to swallow the truth. I made it through hell,
my brown burnt skin is the proof. God send you to war, but the devil flow through your veins for you to aim and shoot.
Judgement is worthless. I got God and the Devil together, working. I need good and evil to be perfect.
Thank you to god, thank you to the Devil.
666 I turned 18 and completed my climb up to heaven, up to the top. But that was not the end, I jumped back down to the bottom to see if I could climb up again.
i.e.: if someones a dick to you, or stopping you from doing what you want in life, fuck them up. But satanism does not give you the right to be a dick or fuck someone up for no reason. You have one life, and you should use it as you see fit, but remember that others might be following the same dogma, so don't get in their way.
I usually say that Satanism is a religion which is supposed to be the opposite of Christianity. This is to say that while Christians stand for abstinence instead of indulgence, avoiding things which are sinful, and doing generous things to serve their God, Satanists see themselves as the God. By indulging and engaging in activities that would otherwise be sinful according to the Christian self, we can become self-fulfilled. This is because sinning is fun and is used to fuel our selfish desires and enjoy life. Bottom line, being a Satanist is about doing whatever you want to do, as long as it is in the confines of the law and a sense of general morality, simply because you enjoy doing it.
It's not super fast to say I guess, and isn't /that/ short, but it's often what I default to.
Other religions preach the total opposite. They are based on self-sacrifice, self-negation, altruism... all artificial rules that go against natural instinct.
So being Satanic is pretty simple if you bare yourself of "civilized" conditioning. Do what goes with the flow of your inner beast.
It feels right? It is!
Traditional satanism is about elevating the soul and recognizing Satan as a real being, so in sense it is a religion.
As for LaVeyan I'd say it's about self preservation and freedom, in general the satanist is one who dares to see things differently and opposes the devolution that other religions as a whole cause on humanity.
Being a Satanist is being yourself, without the fear and regret that christianity constantly enforces on people.
I don't see Satanism as a reaction to Christianity, I actually believe it is the exact opposite. The judeo/christian bible was nothing more than an attempt to control the "Satanists" (by satanist I mean with the description above) which became a problem of catastrophic proportions. The myth of jewsus and jewhova was the best scam in history, enough to bring up temples that worship the god of pedophilia to this day.
be vicious, be you.
