Tazers or Pepper Spray?

please don't joke about this, I'm serious.
I'm seriously thinking of buying one. either a tazer or pepper spray.
I don't want mommy to drive me to school and I can't drive all the way there myself, so the only option would be public transport.
we Mustangs aren't known for our bravery... we have been able to survive in the wild by being cautionous... and mexican subways aren't exactly safe....
2 of my 4 closest friends have already been robed, not by burly men with guns or bowie knives but by 15 year old human colts with a thumb-length razor and a demanding voice.
so if I am to walk alone by a subway I'd better bring something to defend myself with. half a million volts or an irritative spray should buy me enough time to run for the hills.
the only obstale are mom and dad xP they want me to walk ALONE on a subway, carrying my school bag, with nothing to defend myself with... their reason "they'll kill you if you fight" riiiiiight, a 15-year old kid will kill me with a thumb-length knife after being electrocuted by 500000 volts.... or just let them take my bag! oh no problem! they're honorable and won't hurt me whenthey see it's only books I'm carrying...</sarcasm>
obiously I won't go tazing a full grown man with a gun or a bigger knife, those are professionals, they know how to deal with mares carrying tazers... if it's money they want then let them take it...
but if it's not money they want or if it's just some amateur wanting to make easy money then a tazer or pepper spray would come in handy...
plus, in Mexico, being a MARE carrying a BAG, ALONE on a crowded subway equals a hughe, neon sign that reads: I'M HARMLESS! COME AND HURT ME!
and they will certainly will, I don't care what, I need to defend myself with something, guns and knives are out of the question... but a tazer or pepper spray should buy enough time.
as much as my parent´s attitude angers me, they migth have a good point and I know some of you know more about this kind of things than I do.
what should I do? any advice?

With pepper spray you're able to blind your attacker from a safe distance and be able to get away from them or take them down while they are still unable to see. Though if they have something covering their eyes then this is obviously not going to work.
A zapper ((that's what I call them)) on the other hand, can usually incapacitate the target fairly well and almost completely. The only drawback with that is that you actually have to be able to get in close enough to use it if memory serves me correctly.
Either one is a good choice, though personally, I would go with a zapper myself. Then again, I prefer close range fighting, so what do you expect. The choice is ultimately up to you however.
Not to mention a lot easier. It's much easier to hurt yourself as well with pepper spray and not to mention that stuff is just cruel. If a solution is strong enough to eat styrofoam, what would that do to someone's eyes?
it's the same principle used in cattle fences, a high voltage but a low amperage, the amperage you need to kill someone is 8 or 9, tazers have an amperage of 2 or 3 but a voltage of 50 000 volts, it is strong enough to paralize, but not to kill.
you CAN kill someone, because of certain neurological/heart conditions.
amperage is what can affect nerves and muscle, voltage stimulates pain receptors and may cause burn.
the nervous system on all mammals is more sensitive to amperage than to voltage, it's the same thing used in cattle fences, the voltage is 50 000 + but the amperage is not too hign (high enough to paralize but not to kill), so it just hurts but it doesn't kill, things like tazers and cattle fences are not designed to do that. there would be a risk only if the one reciving the discharge was wet, that would magnify the amperage and cause serious damage.
I know becouse I touched an electric fence once x____x it hurts a lot, but I no damage was made to nerves or the heart... but MAN, DID THAT HURT! D: it was calibrated for big, bad charolais cows not for feeble humans, so the amperage did knock me down xD
about the heart, it will only be dangerous if you pass a REALLY strong current really close to it, it is controlled by a separate set of nerve fibers that is independant to the nervous system, that allows it to work even when the brain is unconcious (if it was not like that our hearts would stop if we fainted x__x), that's why you can still see the heart moving after euthanizing rodens, to make sure they're dead (and that we don't disect the litte guys while still alive x___x.. I'd kill ME if that happened) we snap the neck to make sure the brain is disconected from the body (the rodent is unconcious and unable to feel it when we do that) after all that is done, you can still see the heart moving.
defibrilators work on amperage, too, the amperage is strong so it can stimulate nerves and muscle, but the voltage is low, so it can't burn the skin.
A "pistol style" taser is one-shot. You miss, you're done in.
A "touch" taser will make you get well within the attacker's knife range. Bad.
A spray has little stopping power. The attacker, while blinded, may still try to hit you. The reasonable tactic is gas then taser, or gas then a good kick to the groin. Also, the gas may easily turn against you in closed spaces or used upwind.
And as for a 15yo with a knife, they are more dangerous than a 30yo with a knife. The 30yo will know all the dangers of attacking you, getting caught and suffering all the consequences. The 15yo is too stupid to hesitate.
and I'd really like to have something to defend myself with, just to gain enough time to flee or ask for hellp.
the gas and tazer combo do sounds usefull. the tazer I'll be buyin is 50 000 volts, only superman could resist that and I doud he'll ever rob me xD
THAT is a good point x____x still the worse a kid can do is give me a cut, they're just amateurs that try to asault harmless-looking people, like older men or women xP a teacher made one of those flee by threatening him with ether being trown at his face xD (which she didn't had, she showed him a bottle of ethilic alcohol from the lab)
Also, a thing that is worth knowing both ways (not to do it by accident, or to do it when you really, really have to): gas applied copiously to open mouth is lethal. Throat swelling makes the victim suffocate.
I'll be taking some lessons to learn how to use them, too.
Same things as above with the mace as issues, though its relatively inexpensive. Both would be good options.
But do you know what you should really do if someone comes at you with a razor (I assume a box cutter)? If unarmed, just get away from them. A really shrill voice can usually scare them off too.
If you ARE armed with tazer/mace, hold it up and be confident. Make fun of them, be the bigger beast if only in attitude. Many of these punks don't expect women to fight back or be assertive. And I'd have to say the only thing you need to worry about with a razor is if they try to get a hold you. Otherwise worst they can really do is give you a cut. They'd have to hit a major artery to kill you (which would require VERY close proximity themselves, and for the most part you not moving), and those things don't stab well.
If they have a larger blade or a gun... thats a different story. Though if they SAY they have a knife/gun but you can't see it, just laugh at their ass until you do, because they probably don't.
