I can't speak for everyone in the US, of course, but most of the people I know tend to use their electric coffee makers to brew tea as well. I tend to do that, myself, as it works well enough and I don't see any point in having two appliances to do roughly the same thing.

That being said, I do have a kettle which I sometimes use, but it's the sort you heat on the stove top.

Aah very true. And the one on the stove is the one I've been told that is quite common. Just find it interesting as not many have coffee makers here and haven't seen an on the stove kettle for some time. lol

I have an electric kettle but I also use a stovetop kettle. :)

Sometimes I'll make it using a Keurig though.

Do you use pods for a keurig or just run hot water through it? =O I know on some machines like those you can get tea pods but dunno if they'd taste any different,

I usually just get the hot water from it if I'm making tea. I'm sure the pods taste okay they're just kind of expensive. The Keurig was a gift.

Most of us use a Keurig. Though we spend the extra to get a My-cup accessory which allows us to add our own coffee grounds and tea leaves to it. Given it precisely measures the cup, filters the water, and heats it to the optimum temperature for the particular tea or coffee we drink we tend to find them a lot better then the traditional kettle, and a lot more efficient. Thanks to that we get the most out of our tea and coffee. I shop at teavanna and use the tea with my Keurig. If you're in the UK expect the top of the line Keurig AutoKettle that does all that to cost you about £95. So yeah we tossed the kettles in with the tea in the Boston harbor and went digital.

Aaah, now I'm all the more tempted by those types of machines. Especially if it's going to do what's best water wise for tea~ £95 don't sound so bad when compared to other machines like tassimos and the nescafe one, so I might look into that. You have peaked my interest in them. XD

Just remember to use no more then the cup can hold and you can reuse it up to 10 times before fading. Remember to put the mycup in the fridge between uses.

I have a kettle but it's the kind that is put on the stove not electric. Tho I usually just have coffee.

Haha, that is exactly what I was curious about and it seems true that you all have on the stove kettles which seems so old fashioned to me. XD But I can see why if america is mainly coffee drinkers.

I'd say that most Americans don't have a kettle, electric or otherwise. Most Americans aren't big drinkers of hot tea. Iced tea is a popular drink in the American south, but most people will brew it in a coffee maker, or buy a special iced tea maker. My mother has kettles (both electric and stove-top) but she has a close association to Britain; having been raised primarily by her grandmother who emigrated from Britain. She's found that the electric kettle is really useful for rapidly boiling water when she needs it for cooking.

Coffee is far and away the most popular hot beverage in the US. I'd say hot chocolate would even beat-out hot tea for second place.

I think that's what boggles my mind when I heard about the kettle-less thing is because I use it to boil water to save time with cooking and all that instead of just tea just like your mother. But I think a lot of people in the UK use instant coffee instead of using a filter machine or what not. Defiantly on the rise of interest here though.

Well, I think part of it is the price of energy in the UK as well. Energy rates are a lot higher in the UK and Europe than in the US, so you lot have all sorts of energy-saving appliances that haven't found a market over here. Boiling water in an electric kettle is not only faster, but it's a more energy-efficient method than boiling water on a stove-top. For US energy customers, it doesn't amount to a whole lot on our electric bills, but in the UK, I'd wager it's a significant savings over time on your energy bills.
